Gothic 2: Chapter 2 Escort Diego

Whenever I try to show Diego the way out of the valley (going the long way around) he stops right near the castle and the bridge that leads towards the sect camp (G1) and tells me to stay away from the castle. After saying that he won't move and if I go to far ahead and return he disappears.

Am I doing something wrong or maybe just doing it at the wrong time?

Try not to go near the castle as much as possible. Cross the river swiming, dont use the bridge.

I will give it a shot. I take it if I hear that line of dialouge it's over and I have to try again.

Wait a sec, you are supposed to escort him or something?
I beat the whole G2 and I don't remember anything about escorting Diego.

I think it's optional for xp. Otherwise he makes it out on his own.

Well we went along the Orc boarder and wasted every one of them. Got to levels doing it.

However from that point on it's almost impossible. I've yet to find the right path for him to walk along. Sooo frustrating.

The point farthest from the castle and he still refuses to move.

I ended up possess walking him to a point he could move again. Got all the way to where we first met, got the nostalgia + xp bonus. Then he walked back to the old mine entrance and gave me the xp bonus and dialogue about not being ready to leave again.

Strange.

Also to note I cried on the inside when he was talking about first meeting, knowing this Diego isn't the same. That voice just KILLS me.

The quest is only for G2 with addon.

The best way to get him out is by going along the west side of the castle, away from the ork barrier.

Well, it's one of ways (but not unique) to bring Diego out of the Valley of Mines. For example, it's possible to bypass the castle from the right side, meet with Gestath and even to come into the mountain fort. Though I prefer to equip Diego with elite orc sword and together with him to reduce quantity of various monsters occupying the valley (certainly, except for those places where Diego doesn't want to go).

So I was totally going the wrong way the whole time. I didn't even think to have him help me with some of the tougher monsters blocking my way. Thanks for the info, I'll know for next time ^_^
