There is a 'thing' in the heart of the swamp, it seems to be magical in some way, it's blue and gives forth moving lights. Does anyone know what this thing is?
It just looks funky but it doesnt do anything :D
One time accidently i climbed a tree near that thing and i didnt know i could do that and i thought that there is something on the top of the tree related to the "thing in the swamp" but there was nothing. But it is fun to jump from a tree to another tree with acrobatics :D
Does anyone know what this thing is?
Something that was throwed away from Gothic.
Like rolling goblins.

Cool...does anyone know what it's original purpose might have been? Why didn't they remove it?
There was going to be a quest about it but they changed their minds and deactivated the quest, but the thing is still there. Similar to Gothic 3, where you have an army of darkness in the spell book but it cant be used because it was removed at the last second by developers.

Unrelated. but where can you get breath of death from in Gothic 1?

2 persons:
1. Xardas
2. Fifth undead orc shaman in the temple of sleeper (you must kill him):D

I tried Xardas before I asked but he doesn't have it...

Why is Night of the Raven so difficult compared to normal Gothic 2?
Because fans were complaining about how G2 was easy, so they were given what they wanted.
Why is Night of the Raven so difficult compared to normal Gothic 2?
That difficulty is just right, I miss such things nowadays. :(
When i played Gothic 2 Vanilla for the first time i thought it was super hard much harder than Gothic 1. I cheated the first playthrough. But the next times i got use to it and it became very easy.
With Notr it was kinda the same thing :d i thought it was very hard at the first but when you get use to it its ok. But with a mage now that is a different thing i know i can beat the game i have done it without cheats but it is insanely not very fun :D because the spells cost so much mana, the only way that was sensible to me was summoning creatures it is the most effective way.
That difficulty is just right, I miss such things nowadays. :(
The only thing I hate about it is the randomness of killer blows. I can hit a guy 20 times with a 30% 1h skill and do normal damage, and fucker gets a killer blow on the first hit, while he has 1LP left and I have a full life bar, and he sends me right to Beliar. I hate that shit:(

I don't think that the swamp "thing" was the only thing neglected(or what ever you want to call it), I mean there are some NPC's with names and they still do nothing, such as Blade, and the boss of the "bandit" camp, and... and... I think that there is something else but I can't seem to remember. That weird colon, that you can push the opposite side of the gap, near the focus stone you get with Gorn.
And that "hidden" stone golem at the ruins where you find Ur'Shack is very suspicious, that golem gives me the feeling that the golems where supposed to be all over the colony and not just near the tower, or I'm most likely thinking about it a bit too much.
And about the swamp thing...*role-play mode activate* maybe it is there to help herbs grow, haven't you noticed that the herbs you need to give to Cor'Angar are near that thing.*role-play mode deactivate*
In Gothic 1 kinda all herbs are useless after the 3 level so that is kinda neglected too :D

Does anyone know the melee damage formula in NotR?
Does anyone know the melee damage formula in NotR?
(Strength + Weapon damage)/10. Minimum damage is 5, so you can do a bit of damage no matter how weak you are. That is why in the beginning, until you get past level 20, it is good to concentrate more on the range of the weapons, to keep enemies at a distance. The killer blow deals full damage.
About useless things in G1: there is also a potion for Y'Berion, which you can get through cheats.
There is a "Quick Healing Potion" that heals not much health and it actually heals you slower than the normal potion because the hero drinks it like booze

So if I have Strength 110 and Weapon 120, I only do 23 damage?!? It seems like a lot more than that even without critical hits.
patrickfitzpatrick

And the Quick Healing Potion doesn't stack like other potions.

Yes, there are others but that's the only one I can remember the location of at the moment...NotR is very good, shame that the dungeon at the end is so crap and the Claw of Beliar is not worth the trouble at any level...the dragon eggs around Khorinis is a nice touch. Those dragons are so much harder than they were, but I always used Holy Arrow or other magic against them but I'm now a mercenary so I'm not 100% sure.

It makes everything move slowly, but you move normally.

What do you mean the Claw of Beliar is not worth the trouble this freakin blade kills everything 10 times faster than any other blade and it requires no str unlike the other weapons that have the same damage but want 100+ str
The Claw of Beliar does worth the effort, it's fun to get it.. :) but you can get much better weapons easily at the very beginning (you can't use them for a while, though).
You cant use those weapons untill the end of the game 170 str - that is a lot.

The Claw can only do 120 normal damage maximum even at level 47, I killed Raven in three hits with a Heavy Ore Two-Hander. And the claw also has no bonus on it...

In G1 can you stay as a templar until the end of the game? I've played as a Fire mage, Guard/Merc and as a Water Mage but have never been in the sect camp.

Sure, if you join the brotherhood, you become novice and after that a templar. the max magic circle for a templar is circle 4, so you can never become a necromancer, (circle 6), that way.
So when you are templar, you stay templar for the rest of the game.

I've been a necromancer twice...circle six isn't really worth it, especially against the last undead priest, it is almost impossible to use the rune because he keeps hitting you. Circle 4 is the best circle, all the healing and best attack runes are 1-4.

No Bonus???What do you call the blue lightning strikes that take a big chunk out of opponants when it hits.Orc warriors fall in 2-3 hits!
As to the "swamp thing",it is used in the mod"Dark Mysteries".

I mean one or two handed weapon bonus.

IMHO the lightning strikes more than make up for that.At level 47 it happens 50% of the time.

The problem is that there is a glitch with that lightning which accidentally kills NPCs when they are blocking and the lightning occurs.Actually, there are several glitches regarding this, such as the fact that,if an orc or a human blocks and has its hp bar drained by the lighting,it will continue to attack or move sideways for a brief moment, which can result in a double k0.
I also love the rather funny description of a strange mushroom in Gothic 3.It's pretty obvious that they make a reference to the fact that the mushroom resembles a penis.
