Ortega is missing after I cleared out his cave.

I am playing G3 through one more time, using patch 1.73 on HARD, alternate AI, and ALT BALANCING.

I must say that Gothic3 is now a very challenging game! I have to use a lot of thinking to survive. But all my coy strategies have come with a price, I cannot find Ortega!

I took down his cave hideout in a slow, bit by bit battle. I drew the bandits out of the cave only a few bandits at a time until I had finally killed all of them. All but one! Ortega. He is missing!

How can I find him?

open the ge3.ini file located in Gothic3/Ini folder
and change the following line : TestMode=false to TestMode=true.
After that, in the game, press the ~(tilde) key on your keyboard to open up the console.

Before the patch, when anyone disappeared into the side of a mountain, a hill, the ground, etc, they were just lost to me forever; never to be seen again. Now with the patch I rarely have anyone disappear on me, but when it does all I have to do is leave that area for a second or two, and then "whatever" went missing goes back to where it should be.

If you haven't tried that....give it a try and see if that works.

However, I cannot seem to type anything like instructions. All I get is a picture that looks like it is from Gothic 1, of Rhobar fighting a Harpy. I can type all I want and nothing happens.

You should see what you are typing. Do you see the orange text with syntax error when you type something randomly and then press Enter? The rest of the text appears?

Try to carefully type a simple command: like goto Jack

Respect the space and the upper case and then press enter. Does that work?

I get no orange text. Nothing happens.

No idea. Afaik the console uses a texture font, it shouldn't be influenced by language. Do you see the blinking text cursor there in the console?

Sometimes a clean reinstall solves things. Backup your savegames first, uninstall G3, make sure to delete any leftover folders, install G3 and perhaps the new CP 1.74. Start the game and make sure the AI and AB settings are the same as your savegames. Copy back the saves and try again.

I had swapped out the original Gothic 3 Font, which was 600KB with that one that you made, which is 34 KB. I wonder if this queer console is a "bug" caused by the lighterweight font?

Perhaps I should reinstall G3, keep the old font, find Ortega, then save the game, swap the fonts, then kill Ortega.

(My G3 will does not run smoothly with the 600kb font. Very low frame rate.)

Like I said, as far as I know, the Gothic3.ttf is responsible only for the focus names and the numbers on the quickbar. The console as far as I know uses the FONT_default.ximg inside _compiledImage.

But sure, you can try the console before using the small font.

With "all attempts" I thought you reinstalled the game and solved the console font problem but Ortega was still missing.

Oh, let me clarify. I did a clean reinstall, left the original font in place, and still I could not use the console. It is okay. I can live without Ortega. Thanks for your help! :gratz
