The official system requirements

Minimum:

Windows XP
a 2.0 GHz CPU
a graphics card with DirectX 9.1, Pixel Shader 3.0 and 256 MB (such as the GeForce 7900 or ATI 1800)
1 GB RAM

Recommended:

Windows XP or Vista
a 3.0 GHz Dual Core CPU
DirectX 9.1 graphics card with Pixel Shader 3.0 and 512 MB (such as the GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD 2900)
2 GB RAM

The installed game will require about 2.5 GB free hard disk space.

Due to the great number of different system on the market, compability with notebooks/laptops cannot be guaranteed.

Required information:

If you want to know if your system can handle RISEN, please provide all necessary information:

CPU (GHz, how many cores)
GPU (graphics card, exact name of the model)
RAM

and, if possible:

Your desired resolution
and the settings you want to play at (low, medium, high)

Important note:

This is not the thread where Deep Silver or Piranha Bytes will tell you whether your system is compatible or not. All you can expect is help from other users! Should a Piranha post here, he'll only express his private opinion (with a probability bordering on certainty). His statements are not meant as official guarantees or promises. Do not expect an official approvement of your system configuration!

If you want to know for sure whether or not your system is fast enough, wait for the demo and try it!

I don't know if I should make new thread so I am asking here:
Do you realy need that high system like official system requirements are or you can have little less to run Risen smooth. I don't want to pay another 500€ just to play 1 game.

my system:
250 gts 1gb
2gb(planing to buy another 2gb for win7)
cpu amd athlon 2x 3800, 2,30 ghz

Would it run on my system smooth enough on medium detials?

Hmm... if you stick to a resolution like 1280x1024 or below, I think it could be enough. In my opinion, CPU will be the limiting factor here. If you want to upgrade your system, try getting a CPU with more GHz.

Of course, no guarantees on my behalf. System performance is influenced by a great deal of factors.

Hmm getting a better CPU could be a problem for there aren't any CPUs which are much better for your Socket 939.

perhaps you can try and overclock your cpu a bit more. 2,6 GHz should be working fine with a moderate increasing of your Core Voltage and a sufficient aircooling System.

But 300 MHz doesn't make that big differnce at all.

I would say rather try it. When its slow or only bad Quality go and buy some Budget CPU (perhaps an AMD Phenom II X3 720BE (around 100€ with 3,0GHz and a very good overclocking range) and a suitable Mainboard (perhaps a Gigabyte GA770 for around 60€). So 4GB of Ram (DDR2 (around 50€)) and you have a very suitable System for Risen and many other future games for just 200€ but not 500.
This has also the advantage, that you don't have to buy expensive DDR1-Ram for that is more expensive than DDR2 Ram.

I have a HP Compaq 6715s

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 2100 MHz
ATI Radeon X1250 shared 128 MB
2GB RAM DDR2, 667 MHz

I would like to know if there is a way to set the shared video memory to 256 MB in WinXP SP2. I entered the BIOS but I haven't found any entry for such a thing.

Risen doesn't start - I get a message about not meeting the required graphical memory or something like that.

I would be happy to test Risen at minimum settings and resolution :)

Have you checked if HP provides a BIOS update with the missing function?

Just checked it and there is a BIOS update.

"- Updates the Computrace OPTION ROM to version 866. - Adds a Wake-On-LAN (WOL) boot option in the F10 Setup Utility. - Adds a Number Lock option for the external keyboard in the F10 Setup Utility. "

Nothing about the missing function but I'll give a try.

I'm awaiting for my new system to arrive and by the looks of it it's not gonna arrive by Friday as it says in my email confirmation that I will get in next week so im stuck with this to play Risen:
AMD Athlon 3200+ Running @ 1.99GHz
ATI X1650 Pro 512mb(Says 1GB in device manger though not sure which is right)
1.5GB RAM

Can I even run it at all? Lol or do I have to wait until next week?
And if your wondering i'm getting this (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/173367url) i'm sure i'll have no problems with it unless its not compatiable with some of the hardware.

Thanks in advance :)

Yeah... about that...

My brother and I want to play the game(yes, I actually do have a brother who plays games) and what really pisses us off are those lag spikes.

Every few seconds the frame rate lags, and drops from 50+ to 20- and then back up again. And that happens all the time while playing the game, but not while recording it(wtf?) with fraps. Actually, when I do that it gets a stable 30 fps and doesn't move.

Latest drivers installed, and a good enough PC to support the game on max.
Also tried lowering some settings(shadows, vegetation) and I still had those lag spikes. Which are freaign' annoying.

And I know I said I won't come back here. Well, I though I should give it a 2nd chance. But I can't stand those horrible lag spikes.

CPU: Core 2 Quad Q9550
GPU: GTX 260 Palit (Factory overclock)
RAM: 4GB

Resolution 1440x900. (Monitor won't allow any better)
Highest graphic options.

Not really a question wether i can play it but can i play it at decent fps, 40-60? I can't play Gothic 2 with such framerates so you never know...

I think you should be fine. Jodob has a system similar to that, his CPU is even a bit slower (Q6600). He had a minimum of 30 fps in our tests in the harbour city (which seems to be the most demanding area) with a resolution of 1280x1024. With you CPU and your lower resolution, you should be able to get at least similar results.

I tried it on a AMD Athlon 3500+ 2.2 GHz, 7600GT (comparable with x1800 ATI ) 2 GB RAM.
with some of them on middle, some of them closed and anisotropy x4, 1440x990( something like this for widescreen) I couldn't go over 15 fps in the world, only when in caves or houses goes to 30-32. You can imagine with your hardware now. I don't play it anymore, just waiting for an up-grade.
( I had to set 0 for vegetation detail, so there is no more grass and bushes on the ground, low shaders, no shadows, middle texture detail)
In the beginning I set it with higher details and it didn't went to much down, but you cannot even walk normally, let alone to fight. If I set all on high it's impossible to do someting. you get something like just a few fps. Definitley you need at least a dual core processor.

I have 7yo P4 2.80 system, and I play at 1280x960 res, all settings high. I just turned off shadows (better feeling) and vegetation to 1, no fps lags. People shoudn't worry about not running this game, if I can. Just keep your system clean and optimized.

Thanks oh and does Risen automatically set it to what it thinks is best for my system? Like in G3?

I believe yes, though I am not so sure. In any case you do not have a "set it best for my computer" button, it could be done when the game starts for the first time on your pc. (I noticed it starts after a while... it takes more time than the second,third...etc time you start it)

I don't think it does. Settings were on normal right after installation, changed them all to highest and it still runs flawlessly.

I have two PCs and i noticed something very strange:

XP System, E5200(2x2,5ghz), 9500GT 512mb, 2 gigs'o'ram,resolution 1280x...(16:10)

I have serious fps drops in town even on Low settings (u can say it's almost unplayable)
Town lag is persistent on all settings, the only good fps i get is in farout places and there is almost no difference between low and medium there

XP System, 2x2ghz, Ati 3450 512mb, 2 gb ram

Here i play it on low (obviously) and fps is overall better than in the first pc on low. Isn't this strange?
----------------------------------

1. is there any option in the ini to show fps and resource usage ingame?

2.is there any tweak i can do on the first pc so i can fix the stuttering?
i tried disabling PhysX in the ini but the game crashes.

Im running:

Core 2 quad 2.85ghz; L2 Cache 12mb
nvidia 295 gtx
8 gigs of DDR3 Ram
Vista sp2

The is on max settings and resolution. Runs without any problems. Much improved over the state G3 was released in.

Core clock: 590 Mhz
Shader Clock: 1458 Mhz
Memory Clock: 900 Mhz

The recommended dual core speed is exaggerated. I do fine with a 2.2 ghz.

My PC:

Intel i7 920 @ 3.6Ghz
ASUS X58 Extreme
NVIDIA GTX295 overclocked

I agree, my CPU is only 1.8 and it runs fine. A few months ago, someone from PB said that Risen shouldn't take any more resources than Fallout3 and he was right on.

@cenwei on medium it should run flawlessly(at least at 1280 res)
