Hello everybody! :)

I am a big fan of the Gothic series (1 and 2, to be precise). I have developed saved games, created at the point of selecting a camp. They are intended to considerably shorten the initial chapter 1 boring playtime, if one chooses to replay the game through a different camp and / or abilities perspective.

The savegames are for Gothic 1, 2 and 2 Night of the Raven. See each savegame's respective readme.txt file for more in-depth information.

I hope you will find my saved games both useful and enjoyable.

Yours sincerely,

Well, regarding LP's spent, I can understand that using some LP for abilities might be regarded, by some people, as narrowing the choice of development. But, if you look at it differently, they are abilities you would most likely train anyway.

For example, in the case of Gothic 1, LP-paid animal skills cost few LPs (4 SP) and bring a lot of money throughout the game. Therefore, learning them seems like a good choice, irrespective of the type of character you would play.

In Gothic 2 and NotR you cannot open any locked chests, unless you know the skill Picking Locks. As such, you severely limit your options in the game if you do not learn it. And without sneaking, you again eliminate most of the Thieves Guild quests and options.

In Gothic 2 NotR, the player finds a whole lot of stone tablets, which, if used, increase his abilities. It is much more profitable in terms of LP's spent to learn the languages of the builders, rather than use LP's directly, since in NotR LP cost for abilities has been drastically increased. And the 3 LP's used for Strength allow the player to reach 25 Strength and use a weapon that does double the melee damage of its previously available weapon.

As a conclusion, my argument is that, no matter how you would look at it, either from the role-player's or power-gamer's perspective, you are at an advantage, with respect to the way LP's have been spent. The only conceivable argument against would be the purism of builds, such as pure warrior, pure mage, pure ranger, etc., but such a build is generaly an infrequent extreme.

Thanks a lot for downloading my saved games and for your remarks! :D

yes, it does provide money, but there are a multitude of ways to gain money in the game, and even 4 lp's can contribute to a characters power. Personaly I never learn these skills unless Im playing a total role playing game (being a hunter and deliberatly ignoring the story line for a hightened sense of realism)

once again, theres nothing really worth picking a lock for unless you do it to play the "thief" role playing theme. and what about if sombody wanted to become a respectable mage? respectable mages dont pick locks and steal ;)

this I understand. however, earlier in the game people may want to spend points developing higher attributes given the difficulty of the game. Later on in the game (especially when learning new skills gets expensive) stone tablets are great.

youd be surprised how many games I played in this manner, and many other people on this forum aswell. Once you get good at a game, playing in odd and more difficult option is the only way to retain a high degree of interest. ;)

Thanks for posting saves. I am ok with LP distribution - it is just the beginning of the game anyway.

I have updated the saved game for Gothic II standard, by increasing the character 3 levels through exploring and killing extensively. I do not think that an unaffiliated character can be pushed any further. It is amazing how many options and versatility in dealing with challenges Gothic II offers, even when the character is relatively inexperienced. :)

The begining of that game, before going to VoM, is some of the best gaming I have ever experienced. Living in that world is amazing... its too bad, seems like nobody is working on the simple life (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?t=229063) mod any more. That would have been amazing :(

Thank you very much! I accidently destroyed my Gothic 2 Gold save games when making a dual boot in to my comp, and was very angry to myself. Now I can continue from your saves, very handy!

And you would be suprised what shameless thiefes my mages always are, and they do not even hesitate to kill...

I can see where your coming from, but these saves cater towards someone who is playing a balanced game, something most people typically do.
