There was something about 1650x1050 in the gothic1 faq but that didnt help me with 1920x1080. Is there a way to run these games in that res?

lol i think gothic 1 to old for such resolution
Its not up to gothic.
If the resolution is valid, there is no reason D3d would not perform such resolution. If I remember correctly, gothic did take the screen resolution to be offered from .cfg file.
If the choices are hardcoded however... Tough luck.

In the Gamefolder/system is a "gothic.ini" file, that you can edit with any texteditor, search in it for: zVidResFullscreenX and you'll see something like this:
zVidResFullscreenX=1280
zVidResFullscreenY=1024
There you could try to change the resolution.
