As far as I can see nobody is translating the profiles of Piranha-Bytes, which appear nearly almost every second day. So bit by bit you'll find the translations of their profiles in this thread. It's worthy watching. Today I'll start with the newest released profile, Björn Pankratz.

Name:
Björn Pankratz

Field of activity at Piranha Bytes:
Project Director, Game Design, Storywriter, QA

Age:
I'll become 38 in the next summer.
...that's nearly 40, isn't it?

Apprenticeship:
Scholastics in machine building, chemistry and physics.

Jobs up to now:
Well, I've made a lot things. For example my job as a doorman for eleven years is noteworthy.
You could say that I've spend my whole younger years in a Small Town - Disco.
And for a short time I've worked as a teacher till I've realised that the job as a teacher is not my appointment.

Involved in the following games:
Gothic 1, Gothic 2, The Night of Raven, Gothic 3

Favorite music:
Mostly Dark Music, EBM, Industrial, Wave and the eighties. A long time ago I was a fanatic Iron Maiden fan.
My hairs were ebbing away and even my flavor for this style of music.

Favorite game(s):
There are a lot of games, but my favorite games are still System Shock, DeusEx and Outcast.
I know, all of them are old games. And well, anyway Bioshock is good, too. But the gameplay of the System Shock saga was much better.

What are your Strengths:
Strength is a matter for the head. With a healthy mix of ambition, purposefulness, self-discipline and stamina you can get very far.

What do you not like?
"All hat and no cattle", I think is adapted.

What are your hobbys?
Jenny, computer games, role playing games, board-games, composing music,
playing guitar, to draw, festivals, partys, Jim Beam and so on...

What do you ever wanted to see in a computer game?
A balanced gameplay with a breath taking story and a free world in a third person rpg.

Are you afraid of losing your ideas to make a game?
No, I'm not. There are many ideas.
Though to have fun all the time isn't easy at all.

What are your strengths:
Well, I've got a big fur. (Not just because of my moustache:-))

What do you not like?
People with no sense of humour.

What are your hobbys?
Gambling (Board, cards, role playing games and computer games), (watching) football, and hearing music.

That is a very noble undertaking. §klatsch Thank you for your dedication. We try to give you a new profile once a week.

I changed the title to better match what it is. These "Steckbriefe" are not meant to be wanted posters or warrants, they are profiles with bits of a short biography.

Right, and I wasn't doubt with "warrants of apprehension". I just wanted to have a better word. However, thank you for the clearing. ;)

Wow, that's really good to hear! System Shock 2 and Deus Ex are two of my absolute favourites of all time, and I quite liked Outcast too! Bioshock.. not so much (too shallow).

"everything queerbeet"

German word "querbeet" is an idiom and essentially means "mixed".
"quer" literally translates to "across" (nothing to do with queer) whereas "Beet" is a place in a garden where you plant flowers in, kind of a small field.

Ich muss sagen, das Wort "querbeet" habe ich auch noch nie gehört :p. Ich schätze das dürte so etwas wie "across-the-board" bedeuten, wo man so "alles mögliche" meint, oder?
*edit*
Oops, english board, sorry.
I guess the correct translation for "querbeet" is "accross-the-board".

Could any german translate this "Hoffentlich die untigen Eigenschaften nicht zu haben". I don't know the the word "untigen".

I don't know the the word "untigen".

Don't worry, this word is so strange, it looks almost like a newly coined word from Michael.

What he wanted to say is: He hopes, he doesn't display any of the characteristics stated below (the ones under: The Things You Can't Stand the Most). I reckon, his motto is duly mirrored in the Latin sentence.

BTW: thanks for all the translation work. You're doing great. :gratz

Could any german translate this "Hoffentlich die untigen Eigenschaften nicht zu haben". I don't know the the word "untigen".

Rashu has done that already.

But this one is misleading:
"Have you any fear that there might be a day when you don't have any game ideas
No, because I'm not too sure about the ideas I have."

I rather stated that since "my ideas are not important (since I'm not involved in design anyway) I'm not afraid of running out of ideas."

And this one could even be hard for Germans:
"Favorite game
Doppelkopf."
That's a game of cards (standard cards, having Queens, Aces, 10s, Spades and the like - similar to a Poker deck), played mostly in the northern part of Germany.

Powaz

No, because it's not my job to find ideas.

Activity at Piranha Bytes?
Composer and sound designer

Age
28

Training
I have worked since the school for Piranha Bytes, my training in the field of game development is, therefore, work experience.

Jobs so far
Mainly Piranha Bytes. Sometimes even small tasks from other areas, such as Photography, media design, film production, composition, web programming and design.

At the following games cooperated
The complete Gothic series and Risen.

Favorite music?
Soundtracks and Webradio www.martiniinthemorning.com.

Favorite game?
Beyond Good And Evil.

What are your strengths?
Bubbling ideas, some of them to implement.

What do you completely dislike?
1) "Due to a delay in the operation, our train is currently a delay of x minutes"
2) Long queues.
3) To be called "impatient"

Where does inspire you, what are your hobbies?
Delight comes from my wife, exciting challenges, changes. The only real "hobbies" I have time for outside of work include family and friends.

What would you like to see in a game?
Something that moves me to tears.

Are you afraid that you eventually might run out of ideas for a game?
When I once had a creative slump and help my colleagues came with inspiring ideas and proposals; if that works at that moment the situation is pretty good. How long can I, as a composer, come with fresh and new styles and ideas before everything sounds the same ... Good question. I hope I'll stay inspired for a few more years.

I don't know if it is totally correct, but i did my best and the ideas should be the same as in the original profile.

EDIT: Furthermore:

From Here (http://www.worldofrisen.de/article_77.htm)

Our russian Partnersite Piranha Club (http://www.piranhaclub.eu/) managed to get some members of Piranha Bytes to fill a question paper they created.

Here are the answers from Ralf Marczinczik.

1) Name of the Piranha
Ralf Marczinczik

2) Age
41

3) What profession are you trained in (i.e. I remember that Björn Pankratz mentioned in a video that he used to be a school teacher)?

Printer, after a Hauptschulabschluss. I studied at the university by second-chance education.
[Hauptschulabschluss: Lowest of three levels of school graduation in Germany, does not allow direct access to university]

4) What is you job at Piranha Bytes?
Art director/Illustrator

5) What was the first computer game you played in your life? And are you still playing it from time to time?
RIVEN. But I have been inserting it only to take screenshots for reference purposes for quite a while.

6) What game are you currently playing?
Assassin's Creed.

7) Do you like reading and if yes what is your favorite book?
I do like reading and I do it a lot. But there are too many books in our house to point at one which I like best. We're currently at about 30,000 volumes in our library.
At the moment, I favor a book named "The Hounted House" which is 110 years old. I bought it at an online antiquarian bookshop. Dreamlike illustrations...

8) Do prefer to read the book in the electronic form or as a real book you can hold in your hands?
I prefer the printed form.

9) What is your favorite film genre?
Any genre and any era of film (there are many russian classics as well!)

10) What is your favorite movie (it's okay to state more than one if you find it hard to choose only one)?
Blade Runner, Lawrence of Arabia, At Razors Edge... and about 500 others...

11) What is your favorite movie character?
The Muppets.

12) Your favorite music?
Again, everything from any time and genre. I'm still very interested in everything about "Dead can Dance" even though they unfortunately don't exist anymore.

13) Do you listen to classical music and does it inspire you at your work (if you're allowed to hear music there, of course)?

Permanently. I listen to Lounge online radio stations and a lot of modern classic like Peteris Vasks or Nicolas Lens.

14) Your favorite food?
Sushi.

15) What is your favorite beverage?
Cola light.

16) Do you do any sports and if so what form?
Swimming.

17) Do you have a hobby? Or is the work your hobby?
I collect films and books like a madman. And I love do draw comics.

18) Do you have any pets at home? Perhaps a dog, a cat or a fish - like a piranha?
No, not yet.

19) So you have children? If so, did they also play your games? (I remember a story which Johnny Depp told in an interview. He came home in the costume of Jack to give his children a pleasure and they only said: "Dad, don't bother us, go away, we're watching Spierman!")
Not yet, too.

20) Do any of your friends or family play your games?
Many of my friends work as game designers. Therefore, games are always a topic.

21) How do they like them?
I like many of them and others, I only made to pay the rent. But there is not much to be ashamed about.
[The original question had been translated ambiguously from russian to german. "They" is a formal way of addressing someone you are not familiar with (think of the archaic form "thou" in english). The only way to know if the word refers to the one you're talking to (2nd person singular) or to a group of others (3rd person plural) is by context and in the written form, whether the word starts with a capital letter. Here, the writing suggested that Piranha Club asked Ralf what he thinks while context suggested that they were interested in what those others from the previous question think. That is why Ralf's answer does not seem to fit to the question. I think he misinterpreted the question.]

22) If they critizise the game does this help you for later projects, like RPB [working title of RISEN]
Definitely. I'm constantly reading the comments in the forums.

23) How do you usually spend your holidays?
I like to see new cities and countries.

24) Do you like travelling and what country would you like to visit the most?
I like travelling (as a process) and are really nuts on Spain.

25) Have been to Russia before? If not, would you like to visit Moscow or Saint Peterburg? Or more some exotical place like the sibirian taiga or the Altai mountains?
Not yet, unfortunately. But I have many friends who've been to Saint Petersburg and nag me about going there myself.

1) Name of the Piranha
Marko Jelen

Media tech and designer (BSc)

4) What is you job at Piranha Bytes?
3D Artist

5) What was the first computer game you played in your life? And are you still playing it from time to time?
Surely Solitaire or Minesweeper but the first big game was "Settlers 2 - Veni, Vidi, Vici". That was when I thought that I wanted to make something like that, too.
I do not play the old originals anymore but luckily there are enough newer parts.

6) What game are you currently playing?
Assassins Creed on the company's Xbox, The Witcher and Settlers 6 on my PC at home.

Yes, I like reading very much. I read one book of Terry Pratchett after the other but my favorite book is "Hagen of Troy" from (Hohlbein).

18) Do you have any pets at home? Perhaps a dog, a cat or a fish - like a piranha?
No.

19) So you have children? If so, did they also play your games? (I remember a story which Johnny Depp told in an interview. He came home in the costume of Jack to give his children a pleasure and they only said: "Dad, don't bother us, go away, we're watching Spierman!")
No, that can still wait for a few years.

Yes, my younger brother for instance.

21) How do they like them?
Up to today, they always found something to grouse about.

22) If they critizise the game does this help you for later projects, like RPB [working title of RISEN]
Not so much since RPB is much bigger than anything I did before.

23) How do you usually spend your holidays?
At home in Austria or at places with untouched nature (last year I was in Iceland for example, great landscape!)

24) Do you like travelling and what country would you like to visit the most?
A change of scene once a year is okay but I don't want to have it too often. I'm more a cosy type. I especially like Austria and Iceland.

25) Have been to Russia before? If not, would you like to visit Moscow or Saint Peterburg? Or more some exotical place like the sibirian taiga or the Altai mountains?
Alas, not yet. But a visit there is planned, that is why I'm currently learning russian.

Some of them, yes. But most don't play roleplaying games.

I like them most of the time. Of course there's always room for improvement.
[The original question had been translated ambiguously from russian to german. "They" is a formal way of addressing someone you are not familiar with (think of the archaic form "thou" in english). I usually take my holidays by the day to run some errands or for working as a docent.

24) Do you like travelling and what country would you like to visit the most?

No, the cold and the missing communication skills will probably prevent me from doing that for the rest of my life.
