Gothic 2 NOTR: last dragon: demon won't summon

Hmmm. I'm trying to kill the last dragon on the isle of Idorath. Summon Demon doesn't work. Does that mean only thing is to attack with sword ?
Never had much luck that way, but looks like I might have to learn. I've tried circling him, but he quickly turns and I get blasted. I read one hint to get close and not let up ( Lu Richardson walkthrough ). I've had a little success with that, but I still get blasted sooner or later. Any hints ?

I usually drink a potion of speed before facing him. It gives me speed advantage, so i can charge him with a one hander, so i can attack real quick. This makes him fly in circles, but don't worry, keep charging him. He'll be finished before the potion's effect runs out.

I use to bring a demon scroll though. He takes any dragon down all by himself, atleast if you contribute to, but strange it won't work, you know you can hire a dragon hunter which constantly yaps you for more money, but it's worth it if you can't find any other way to defeat the dragon.

fire rain is vey effective against dragons... and problem with demon is really strange because i have killed all dragons with demon help

What does "Summon Demon doesn't work" mean? Is the demon just to weak or doesn't the demon even hurt the dragon?
At least the demon should do some damage, but normally it can't kill the last dragon without help. With an ice wave (Vatras sells two scrolls) you could freeze the dragon before summoning the demon, then you can also attack the dragon without problems. A speed potion + black ore is also very useful.

I don't think its possible to freeze the dragon, but for the last dragon you only need a few destroy undead spell scrolls.
As for the fire dragon before that, have you tried any other summoning spells, like army of darkness, or shrink monster also works perfectly.

I don't think its possible to freeze the dragon An ice wave should work, only ice blocks are useless in notr (destroy undead and fear also shouldn't work anymore against dragons, shrink monster only against the first five dragons).

What? :eek: He is undead, why not? That was such in easy way with UD in G2 vanilla. :(

use Summon Skeletor. Summon about 3-6 skeletors to take the damage from the dragon while you're killing him from behind. And summon skeletors really often cuz they die very fast. In NotR a Summon Skeletor spell scroll require 5 Mana. But wait... all spell scrolls cost 5 mana. I always use Summon spells when fighting a dragon. well, except the swamp dragon.

P.S. no, I didn't mistake R for N in the word Skeleton. I just love saying Skeletor instead :p :D

Don't know why because the "summon demon" scroll worked fine on the first dragon in the cave with all the Lizard Men and Dragon eggs. Something totally disabled all of my scrolls. When I try to summon the demon, nothing happens at all. No demon appears. Hm, perhaps the demon slid into the texture or something like that. But I always had this problem in narrow places, but not in huge caves. Perhaps you can try at different positions ... and other spells don't work, too? Very strange. §kratz

Weird, but I've managed some kind of fix to my Inventory. I went back to the ship and talked to everybody again thinking there might be a clue. Then I slept overnight. Next moring, when I left the ship, I tested a couple of things like change into a Dragon Snapper, and it worked ????????????? So
I went back to the last dragon and summoned Demons, and this time it worked. I got very close to killing the Dragon with help from friendly Demon, but so far, the Dragon gets us both. I need some lucky sword hits, but looks like I'll eventually kill the dragon now. I tried summoning several Demons, but either they attacked each other, or they would not summon as before. No go there. A single Demon seems to be my best bet for eventually killing the dragon. More demons don't help at all. Again, I think it is the limited game memory that can't handle all the action. Shades of Gothic 3, huh :-)

I think this problem I'm seeing with the failing Inventory is being caused by the limited size of the Virtual Drive in Gothic 2 NOTR. It cannot hold all that is needed at the end of the game, and my returning to the ship must have reloaded the Inventory. I noticed I had potions that I did not have before. One was a STR potion, and I used it immediately, and returned to the dragon cave. From that point, I can summon Demons. Now, It is just a matter of time and luck to ending the game. It has been a great game for sure.

Holy cat ! I got to thinking about my last post regards the Virtual Drive size, so I decided to really act on it. I went to an empty chest, and just unloaded most everything in my Inventory I did not need. All the keys, all the trophies, all furs, etc. I kept healing potions and scrolls. Then, with a greatly reduced Inventory, I went back to the Dragon, and selected Fire Rain. I went up to the Dragon and activated Fire Rain ... and sure enough it rained fire for a while. Then I noticed that when the Fire Rain was over, the dragon did not restore health !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I activated a Demon and watched. The Demon went over and started clawing the dragon, and the dragon just stood there and let it happen. Finally the dragon fell, and the movie started. Afterwards, I went and talked to everybody. Went to the Captain and we saled away ... end of game.

So, I think I was right. The Virtual Drive size is very limited, and when I greatly reduced my Inventory, I was able to gain the upper hand regards what action loaded ... and THAT action over-rode the loading of the Dragon's combat system, and my Demon just ate him. The exploit was to stand just out of range of the dragon starting to send fire, and when I created the Fire Rain, I locked out the dragon's response. Nasty little exploit, but I'll take it :-)

A copy of what? Do you mean G1? I think it's no go then :rolleyes: and if you were using pirated versions of G2 vanilla and G2 NOTR, maybe problems were caused by that. I hope you didn't use, but that was only a presume.

No. I have my own copies. Got Gothic 1 ( original ) coming from Amazon .. new copy in original box even ... about $16. It is worth it to me. I've enjoyed this series a lot, and I think it has be re-discovered by the gamers. I'll finish Gothic 1 about the time the G3 add-in comes out. I'm trying to get use to the G1 controls in the demo now. Rough going. I need 6 more fingers.
