I recently started to play this game but im a bit lost. I lost my king §cry in my first fight and i have a very bad economy. So what should i build first? The tutorial doesn't help much either. :(

Feel free to post your game experiences after you help me. :p

Well you need to raise your kingdom power and build markets to increase your money. And dismiss all your generals and things cause they too take money. If all else fails raise the taxes but I wouldnt advice it.I am a pro at this game btw ;)

And the ppl's happines is also important.Just marry your new king to boost it up a bit :)

Cool :D
We I dunno I usually play in the late centuries with Turnovo cause its quite challenging :)
But you could try Byzantia.it will get you lots of gold in the begginng centuries. :)

Well, here's something which helps: fire your first general-knight, turn your king into a merchant. Demolish all your tax offices and build an inn/tavern thingy.

Try to get as many trade alliances as possible, and have your merchants trade with them for gold.

Another thing which helps is increasing your Kingdom Power(red/green bar top-left) to +5 as soon as possible.(costs gold&faith)

Hire more knights and turn them into merchants as well; small kingdoms shouldn't need only 1 general in any case.

Its quite easy to get rich this way even when you start with only 1 province. (such as the scottish highlands)

It also helps to have no tax rate. (increase in happiness = good)
Tax is, especially in the beginning, a rather meak source of gold.
While later on you should have enough gold from the above manners to finance your expanding empire.

You can easily conquer half of europe this way when starting as the scottish highlands. (which is a secure locations since the only way to attack it is through england or by sea)

Oh, and *never*, ever, ever use your king/successor as a general.

No, because kings can make pretty good merchants.
And then there's the fact that they can die of *old age*.

I prefer my generals to be immortal, and fully skilled-out.

Too bad that you cant use the princesses and queens for anything :(
I really like those warrior queens :D

hohoh, this is my favorite strategy game

make your royal family merchants, and fill all the gaps with merchants, leave only 2 marshals

then construct economical buildings, and only in your capital build a big fortification, with the best troops you can get.

TIP: If you're a rookie, play with Norway, If you're medium, play with France, If you're good, play with Boemia

Yeah, Bohemia/Czech is fun.
Though the Highlands are also fairly easy to start out from.

Yeah, Bohemia/Czech is fun.

I never tried Bohemia...I hate it when my teritories are surounded by other countries.
I also hate to start with a prosperous nation, like Byzantia or Germany(same for Medieval:Total War)

I think that it's fairly easy to play the Danes.;)

I pretty much played Bohemia all the time when I was playing jus the demo.
Your biggest problem would be trying to stay out of wars untill you have a good army.

I bought the game after trying the demo, and played for some hours now.
Playing as Norway, and conquered three of the territories that belongs to Sweeden (maybe one of them was Finland).
I have the 1.05 patch.

Anyways after taking them over I get alot negative happiness by exhausted by war and nostalgia, it's only that after atleast 2 hours when taking over one of the villages I still have nostalgia +10, and exhausted by war on +20, which makes it nearly impossible to get negative chance for rebellion, and they come quite often.
Is this normal, or is there something I must do so this drops quickly?
I play on easy, how do I make another kingdom my vassal?

My favourite country in almost every such game (Europa Universalis II, Medieval II total war, crusader kings) is Poland.
Good predispositions in economy (mines, manufactory, baltic sea- although in KoH economy is random, what I hate), excelent location ( weak east, every neighbouring country on west (Germany, Bohemia, Hungary) is vulnerable on that part of europe)
All the time I develop unnoticed and unharmed, ad in time of greatest weaknest, I conquer pagans on east, then lead most sophisticated army on Bohemia and Hungary
Then you can finally conquer Germany, and then whole world:D
Try Poland, they are awsome in each aspect

@RobinHood.
You will have to hire a cleric, put him to govern a province with high nostalgia and then adopt population when you have 1000 books.
As an advice, before attacking a kingdom, build your kingdom power up to 5. That will get you some negative chance of rebellion.
As for Exhausted by War, you simply have to end all wars for that thing to disappear.

To make a kingdom you vassal, simply start a war, conquer one or two provinces and then offer peace, but demand tribute. Set as tribute, vassalage.
You can choose between demanding a province, a royal wedding, gold or vassalage.

GL with the game. It's awesome!

Thx, good advices.
I already had figured out how to adopt population which helped alot,
but now I'll only have to end war with sweeden. Maybe the king of Sweeden will agree to be my vassal:D
And yeah my kingdom power is 5. I've got about 200 gold in income to:D

Now I'll have another question.
My prince was married to someone in Novrogod and I was given the opportunity to claim land, after their king died. I wanted to see how that worked but all I got was bad kingdom power and Novrogod hating me.
I couldn't control their territory.
NB: they only had one province.
Why didn't I get the land and what happens when we claim land like that?

Onisuzume
10.06.2008, 11:11
Well, it gives you a chance to claim some of their provinces, though they won't be happy with it. Not to mention that it can be far away from your main kingdom.

So I always skip the chance of claiming it; that increases your relations with that country. And I can always conquer it at a later moment.

NB: they only had one province.
Which is probably the reason why it failed.

As for Exhausted by War, you simply have to end all wars for that thing to disappear.
Always try to be at peace unless you actually plan to conquer provinces.
Though it can be pretty difficult if someone declares war to you.

As for rebels appearing: I wish that'd happen in my games...
Then again, I probably do too much to keep them happy.
They're an excellent source of exp for your generals after all...

RobinHood 13.
10.06.2008, 12:19
Now I have adopted all villages which helped alot.
I made Sweeden my vassal, so I was at peace with everyone, but exhausted war didn't drop. Therefore I decided to free Sweeden and become allies with them instead, but the exhausted war thing still wont drop.
It's at 20, how long do I have to wait for this?

Onisuzume
10.06.2008, 13:33
Maybe you're at war with another country then?
Go to political view and check for crossed swords with a flame.

RobinHood 13.
10.06.2008, 15:13
None!
If my allies wages war to other countries does that affect that as Denmark wages war to a lot of countries, and I'm allied to Denmark.

Onisuzume
10.06.2008, 16:32
Maybe that could be a problem...
Can't be sure though, never actually had any allies in my games. (or vassals for that matter)

RobinHood 13.
10.06.2008, 20:20
I discovered the reason why my "exhausted by war" wouldn't drop.
Apparently I had a small enemy far south I hadn't noticed when watching over the political map.
It dropped nearly instantly after proposing peace with them.
Now that I'm not constantly bothered by rebelrises I can see the advantages of having them.
I now control 11 provinces, but one of my villages won't convert to cath religion. Used the option with a clerk 3 times (each cost atleast 10k gold), and every time failed.
He's elected pope now so that gives me some advantages:D

Altair-AoD
13.06.2008, 20:07
Imagine what would happen if you discover your beloved Pope is a spy. :D After some hours of play i realised my best merchant was a spy. Now i always keep an idle spy so he can perform counter-espionage. ^2^
