I don't care for phone games, but seeing Gothic going for the mobile phone market kinda disappoints me. And I don't know why. Many other games that I love have mobile-phone variants(POP,Splinter Cell). I guess it's because I honestly cannot see what kind of game could they make? It will surely be something light, that you can pick up, play for 10 mins, and then drop it without feeling anything.

Yeah, sure, I do agree that the fans should not believe the world of computer games is an idealistic la-la land. But that doesn't either mean passively accepting everything "just cuz that's how the biz works". Even though the chances of actually affecting a change are probably next to non-existent.

Heck, it's discontent like that that pretty much spawned many of the indie/ug music scenes of today.

Imo it will be either something like the TES mobile version(yuck!) or something like Mario(2D side scrolling action game). I heard of graphics accelerators for mobile phones, but I'm guessing they aren't very cheap.

I do agree on both regarding this mobile game. Wouldn't surprise me if it was eventually laid to rest quietly. A good dev team could probably make a strong NES/etc. type RPG (Zelda and the lot), but it still wouldn't feel like Gothic to me as the name Gothic, when speaking of RPG's, represents certain things to me, and those things are not old console RPG's.

well, you're just instantly assuming that a gothic mobile is going to be horrible. Hellbilly is expecting it to be horrible, but would also not be surprised if it turned out to be fun. I do understand you rebelzo, and I won't go into who dissapointed me with G3. You're right, I wasn't been dissapinted by JoWood yet (thou this is to some degree questionable - G3). If I'm dissapointed or cheated by some company, then that company have a hard time to convince me again to buy their next product - the fate of PB with me after G3. And I have a hard time to understand that with Arx Fatalis, distributers usually deals only with scedule and similar merits, not with dev's - project's fiscal state and other situation (except in light of holding to the scedules), except if the developing group has from this or that reason lost (sold) their exclusive rights over the project (Piranha Bytes - Gothic franchise?).

Just for the sake of possibility that maybe we can gain a good or even great game I'm willing to give JoWood a chance, I won't slam them down just for the sake of it.

As far as I know some Jowood employees said around the time of the split that they werent worried about PB leaving,
because everything with the name 'Gothic' on it would sell to the numerous fans.

And I think that already describes their attitude towards their customers:
They want to make profit, not caring about the condition their products are sold in.

Of course ALL publishers want to make a certain profit.
But most of them are focussed on quality control and to release their products in a polished state (the best example being Blizzard) to earn their reputation as a publisher you can trust.

In my opinion Gothic 3 is a good game, that wasnt as good as Gothic 2 or Gothic 1 though in story and content - and that is PB's fault.
But the fact that it got released ridden with bugs and imbalanced gameplay
is Jowoods fault, for they pushed it to a quick release without ensureing
its current quality.

Jowood died for me, not only because of their quick profit ideas but also
because of their methods.
If you are keeping yourself well informed in the videogame scene,
you might know that Jowood attempted to bribe several game magazines
into giving their products good ratings.
This included the german game magazine Gamestar which rejected their offer
and went to the public with a column about bribe in the game market
(4Players also reported about that when it occured).

Also they stripped PB of the rights of their own inventions,
thats like taking away Warcraft and Starcraft from Blizzard.
For an 'artist' or a company like that seeing all they created
and envisioned in their minds in years of hard work go is a tough blow.
It is intellectual theft, and any publisher who resorts to that without respecting their developers is nothing but criminal to me.

So I'll be glad if Jowood will close down and that an end is put to their almost
'mafia'-like methods.

As many times stated before, gaming ind. is a lucrative business, and such methods are sadly a 'normal' part of a struggle for a better piece/share of a market in every business.

And about pushing PB to a quick release without ensuring game's better quality; in every project there must a deadline, otherwise some of them would last forever, especially if you're on other's payroll. And we all know how long G3 was in developing process, long enough in my book for a much better game that has camed out. Don't be one-sided, share the guilt rightfully.

Well, i'd assume most devs or publishers would try bribes in their early days just to get a running start. But what jo doesn't realize is that people are eventually going to see past these bribes and look for quality. We would get a good g4 if they realize this very soon.

Well why not; some Evil Dots came and eate Scavengers and now they're bouncing up and down left and right from wall to wall waiting on another victim foolish enough to enter the house. And the main character's name might as well be Pacman, we don't know his name, do we. Is this logical enough?:D;)

That would be logical. But it could be because you have to pay for games, but seeing if they'll be good is often free. Still, i have doubts in the mass of a gothic mobile with Xardas as a hero tyhat takes place before g1 by over a 100 years.

No, really, Gothic 4 will probably be a decent game and I am definitely not complaining (although, everything I've heard so far seem to prove that it will be sucky). Gothic 3 - The Beginning is, in itself simply awful. And since PB is now making a new game, with which they will have the time, money and freshened spirits to put their work into, why keep hoping for the Gothic games to rise again?

And, yes, I consider G4 to be a sidetitle.

No, I was thinking maybe this abbey refers to the ruined monastery from VoM or the Monastery from Khorinis. That in the distant past one of those was the headquarters of the Blood Order.

And perhaps there is a connection with the blood chalices. Maybe they were similar as what the fire chalices are for the Order of Fire.

Apprently, Jan 15th was the date on which the game was shipped to the vendors (mobile operators). It will take some days, even a week, until they update their online shops.

Just the way different devs do things. Instead of making the players depend on the instruction booklet or little pop-up windows, give cheesy monologues. What would you do if you were a dev?

Very minor, you can find these without pressing start in the game.

So far... I don't know. I'm not very enthusiastic.

They randomized the lock combinations. §burn :D Goodbye loading exploit. The young creatures are easy to kill, but the normal ones are though, at least from levels 1-5. I've chosen to be a melee fighter... and I'm in constant need of money to spend on health potions and in constant need of LP, because I'm too weak.
Except the names 'Khorinis' and 'Xardas', everything else is new so far. The island keeps some geographic resemblance to what we know... near to the east and north there are farms... further to the east is the "Abbey", on a location the could be the one of the Monastery; a little to NW is a lighthouse.

140 years before the current events (thus 280 before g1) there was this evil magician's guild "The Order of Blood" who ruled over Tirith and later spread in Khorinis. The Abbey was their headquarters. Buthomar was a magician in that guild. He had a brother (an evil twin perhaps :p) named Zarkan, who was the leader of the organization. Buthomar didn't like evil, so he fought the guild with the help of some guys, who were the ancestors of the current chosen ones. He stole the magic runes and sealed them in temples. The keys were hold by the chosen ones. 140 years later, Dussaro, who is the descendant of Zarkan, tries to get back the runs. He's the bad guy, obviously. He already has one rune: a rune that spawns orcs!

Hmm, the beginning isn't looking so bad. An actual attempt at a storyline, nice enough lore, gothi-cish gameplay (haven't played it, just judging on what larissa and diego say). I'm interested in buying it now... guess it's not an absolute failure.


I personally would make a pop-up window, instead of putting it into dialogs. Like it was in G3 (sort of).

Must fight orks!!! Press 2 to wield a ranged weapon... slash! slash! slash! U dead! Much betters to pause for text.

too little lore: the lecterns, for example, could've been made readable.
all humans look the same: same red outfit, even the women.

And for diego_pmc: nope, no time travel, no blindness, no explanation for 140 years. Or maybe I didn't end it. I still have one unsolved quest.

Yet you said like in g3... i remember getting slashified by orks in g3 while i learned to press 2 to wield a ranged weapon. But regardless, whether or not you use a pop-up window or text is irrelevant to gameplay, it's a small choice for a dev to make.

I think any kind of mob... But I've avoided lots of fights and don't intend to kill 1000 of those little guys just to find a shirt after I've finished the main quest.

I don't know if that is really the final ending (and you don't get a nice end text somehow), but since the main quest was completed, I didn't felt the need to try and find some hidden ending.

Ok so i bought the game for 2.50 euros from orange :D but im stuck...I am at the part where i have to talk to kribas (or kirbas) again after talking with Celdric..well in his hut there are two bandits who kill me...i got no chance...what can i do?

Do lots of side missions (the ones where you encounter enemies on the map).
That was the only way for me to make loads of money and xp. At first try only animals, not bandits, undead or orcs.
Make sure you check every tree for hidden treasures. Make sure to train and sell everything you don't need. After 30-40 side missions, you should be some levels more advanced and could easily take the weaker bandits, or even the normal ones. The bandit chiefs however, were very strong. And of course, if you are attacked by ~6 bandits in the same time, it's hard to kick their butts.

Not only check trees on those "fight" maps, but also stones, skeletons and of course chests. Anything on those maps can contain potential items and gold. Makes you rich fast, even if you don't kill anything. That#s the way i earned some cash before starting to kill anything at all.
