My dear and beloved crazy Gothic fans...

Demonium presents you his new(first) mod for G3

New textures for G3...

Contents:

Textures, normal maps, screenshots, read me

Installation:

Extract the folders into this path: _compiledImage
in Gothic 3 data folder.

THE CHANGES I HAVE DONE...

I have changed the folowing textures in G3.

1) Heros head texture. ( improved the texture of his face, changed his hair, his beard and added a new scar to his left chick.)

2) The texture for rebel armor. (now it looks bit different from the one of Orcs mercenaries armor and better IMO)

3) The textures for paladins armor...(you will love it...i hope)

4) The first paladins helmet

5) The Orc elites armors ( Updated )

Warning...

The things i have only changed are the textures and the normal maps...Unfortunately we cant change yet the models...

If you dont like my mod simply delete the folder from your G3/data.

Also if you will find something that you dont like or a problem or whatever dont start screaming on me...
"why this and why that"...Just inform me about whats wrong...

My mod is tested in my PC and it works fine...

I hope you like it, and tell me your opinion...

Download the *pak file here (Updated)....

OMG!!! IT'S AWESOME. Especially the white paladins armor! The rebels armor looks much better but i still hate it not because of the texture but because of the 3d model. Hero's face looks pretty cool ;) (i always thought that a scar would make him better) . Nice work. Hope we'll see more! Also by the way which tool did you used in photoshop for the scar cuz i like it much!

Dude calm down it took me 2 days to do these things...and you already want more...:p

We will see later...:D

By the way, install it please and tell me if it works...:)

I know you have done some modifictions too...Can you help me to find the heavy rebel armor Please? I just cant find it...

Oh, by the way, i use Photoshop and ACDSee pro...The second one did most of the work, because i dont know a Sh*t about using photoshop...It is so damn weird difficult...But i will learn it somehow...

Ah, this damn rebels armor is so bad designed...the modeling part is so strange that i didnt knew how to change it...Finaly i managed to make something...

I will try now the Orc elites armor...

Yepp, they are working, and btw,... they're looking cool, good work, keep it up! :A

Only the same hints i already gave to Mikael Grizzly:

For the armor: Could you post before/after screenshots, please?
For the tweak: Could you make it compatible for the Gothic3 Starter Beta (http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=115)? It's much more comfortable, especially when you run many tweaks. ;)

No problem, just download and install the g3-starter, start to see how it looks and works, then take a look in the modifications folder (in your g3 folder).
I think you can figure the most out just by checking that folders and files in it.
And for a how-to create a *pak-file, click this:
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=2944942&#post2944942

Necessary tools:
http://www.bendlins.de/nico/

Feel free to ask more if it's needed.

If you have problems with paking the files as a *pak, other users or i can pak the files for you, but i recommend to at least try it, it's not difficult. ;)

And the screenshots included in the *.rar file doesn't work for me,... i cannot open them, error message: "Can't read file header / Unkown file format."

Paking the files as a *pak??? Why is that for? Oh, you mean in order to put it into the G3 starter?
I tried but i cant really figure out all the nessesary steps in order to pak it...
i lost my way somewere during the command lines...LOL ( i know i am not good at these things:D )
Ehm...well, can you please do that for me? I would apreciate that.

What? But they are Jpeg format. Tried to open them with windows picture viewer? If still doesnt works, inform me please to change this...But they are the same screenshots i posted in this thread...same file format

Ehm...well, can you please do that for me? I would apreciate that.
There are some probs, you placed in the folder \Data\_compiledImage\animation those files:
G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_normal_S3.tga
G3_Armor_Helm_Myrtana_02_Diffuse_S1.tga
G3_Armor_Helm_Myrtana_02_normal_S1.tga

You would have to place them first in the correct folder in order that the game reconize them.

What? But they are Jpeg format. Tried to open them with windows picture viewer? If still doesnt works, inform me please to change this...But they are the same screenshots i posted in this thread...same file format
The filenames were the prob, if you rename them all is fine (that "μμ" in the filename is problematic).

Good textures and also good work.:D§danke §respekt
Don't really like the big moustache.Maybe should be a "lighter" beard...this one too visible and doesn't look at all like the nameless in G1 and G2.
I can't tell the difference at back of nameless' head. It is either not changed either I forgot how the hero looks like.
And yes,a scar on the hero's eye would be good.:D

The armor is very cool and very shiny.
*ding* Just got an idea.:DI'm thinking that someone should edit the paladin armor so that it resembles a samurai armour. As shape they look alike, just the coulor needs editing.:D

Anyway good work and hope to see more.:D Make me play G3 the second time.:D

Again a silly question of mine...What correct folder? Isnt the "animation" folder the one that the textures should be placed into?

The filenames were the prob, if you rename them all is fine (that "μμ" in the filename is problematic).

I think i changed that now...changed the previews rar with a new one. I only changed inside the names of the screenshots...i hope it is fixed now...

Soon screenshots of before and after are coming just w8. It takes too much time to load a savegame of G3:p ;)

Just updated...

I made some before screenshots...see above ^ and compare them. Now the changes i have done seem better...

Dudes i am making the orc elites armor now :tanz:
It is perfect!!! Never expected to achieve that...

I 'll post it here in some hours once i will finish it...;)

Edit: Ok. I added new screens of the orcs elite armors i have made...and updated the rar file with the changes...

When i open the pak file (_compiledImage.pak) and check it with the g3explorer these files are not listed in the animation folder,... from what folder you extracted them (where exactly you found those 3 files?)?
Also it seems that the engine recompiles the *tga files you made back to the original *ximg format,... in other words, the game (when you start a new or saved game/or maybe when you actually use/put the armor on) it creates those *ximg files,... check your own animation folder (in the g3 game folder),... there should also for you have suddenly appeared some new files you didn't created.... so that means that the game used only the files which are converted to ximg, every *tga which has not a duplicate of it's own as *ximg wasn't used.

Oh shit you are right...my bad!!! Now i see that too. I exported the helmet from another folder named "items" and not animation...But how the F*** still works? Instead of puting the changed file it into the items folder, i put it into the animation one...LOL and it works...

You are damn well right. Thats why i was confused...The engine automaticaly created the *ximg files and i thought that i extracted it from there!!!:(
Oh, thats why it works...clever engine no???

By the way is there a problem that i didnt put these 3 files into the correct path? I mean that they dont work to you? or just it is only about the starter?
Because if there is not working tell me to change that...

Thanx for your effort by the way,

EDIT: About the "G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_normal_S3.tga" i didnt extracted that at all...There wasnt any *ximg file for that from the beginning... I just saw there wasnt any normal map(strange by the way) and i made one of my own...

Anyways, have you seen my Orcs elite armor?

i put it into my original modification folder together with the other ones...now it is about 12 MB....

I will post it seperately if someone wants to use it...

Demonium

Oh, Sorry for double posting Werner but if i 'll put everything in 1 post it is gonna be like a messy massive post...

wow i love ur textures, but i was wondering if there is a way for u to give the hero back the pony-tail?

If you noticed above, i said no model changes. The thing youre asking is a modeling change...Till now we dont have even access to open the models and change them...ONLY textures until PB releases the editor/mod kit;)

But when this will hapen definetely i will try to do that...:)

Same goes with new weapons and new armors and new creatures...I have made some models in my modeling programs...but i am waiting this damn promised long ago editor to put the models into the game...

Till then, enjoy my texture mod...and the other ones that other members have created...

Can u expayn to me how to instal you textures cuz i dont know how to open that compileimage thing .

Demonium
08.02.2007, 19:52
extract the archive u find here-there is a new folder appeared "animation" move or copy that folder into ur gothic3/data/_compiledimage/ folder and that's all
BTW u should make it esyer to install -so that we nedd to extract them in g3 folder and them to ge automaticly in the _compliedImage folder

I asumed that you have already extracted G3 _compiledImage folder into your Gothic 3 Data directory...If you will do that, _compiledImage folder will automaticaly apear and inside, you will find the animation folder in witch you have to put the tga files...Simple No?

It is just a copy paste job...Whats so hard in it?

Deferigon
08.02.2007, 19:55
Well thats the problem there is no _compileimage folder in my data folder just a PAK file named _compileimage, thats the problem.

Demonium

than create it geesh:rolleyes:

Thanx for the help that you explained it...Its hard to make all this things simioutanesly. I mean make a mod, answering questions, see if it is working, test again if there is a problem, test if the links are working and so on...

First, let's make it easier for me (or anybody else who wanna help ;) ).
For every changed item/armor/whatever make please a before/after screenshot (a screen (ingame-screen) of the original "thing", and one of the modified "thing" putted together), and also post the insert-code for the modified thing, that makes checking things much easier.
(and don't count the usage of "thing" in that post).

I mean that they dont work to you?
I didn't saw any changes, but see above, make it easier for me to check those things.

or just it is only about the starter?
Not the starter, but it's about the pak-file, it seems that the engine don't accept *tga's in a pak-file (they will not be used/recompiled).

Thanx for your effort by the way,
:) ... NP,... i just love to see improvements to g3.

About the "G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_normal_S3.tga" i didnt extracted that at all...There wasnt any *ximg file for that from the beginning... I just saw there wasnt any normal map(strange by the way) and i made one of my own...

I wouldn't expect it too soon.

I asumed that you have already extracted G3 _compiledImage folder into your Gothic 3 Data directory...
You shouldn't assume something like that, it's always good to make the installation as easy as possible, some players don't care about files in their game-directories. ;)

than create it geesh:rolleyes:
Cool that you wanna help, but please stay friendly,... i would have prefered an answer like:
Create a new folder, rename it to "_compileimage" and put it in there. ;)

And about the codes...

G3_Animation_Head_Hero_01_S1.tga <----heros head textures

G3_Animation_Head_Hero_normal_S1.tga <-----heros head normal map

G3_Armor_Helm_Myrtana_02_Diffuse_S1.tga <---- 1st paladins helmet

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_Diffuse_S1.tga <----- paladins armor

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S2.tga <---- paladins armor normal map

G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_Diffuse_S3.tga <----- rebel armor

G3_Orc_Elite_body_diffuse_S2.tga <---- orc elite armor (with green-blue banner)

G3_Orc_Elite_body_normal_S2.tga <--- orc elite armor (with green-blue banner) normal map

I didn't saw any changes, but see above, make it easier for me to check those things.

Since you copy paste the tga files into the correct animation folder, how can
it be that it doesnt work? I havent done anything different than you in my PC and everything works fine. Maybe its just you didnt noticed the changes?

Not the starter, but it's about the pak-file, it seems that the engine don't accept *tga's in a pak-file (they will not be used/recompiled).

Hm...it is slightly brighter now...

The one i tested now was ok,... but also there it seems that only "G3_Orc_Elite_body_diffuse_S2.tga" was used.

Maybe you havent seen the other orcs that wear the other armor yet?
I mean there are 2 armors for orc elites. The one is with a red banner and the second one is with a blue-green banner. I changed them both. If you will go to Faring you will see the elites with different armors...

With the red banner is the--> G3_Orc_Elite_body_diffuse_S1.tga
And with the blue-green banner is the--> G3_Orc_Elite_body_diffuse_S2.tga

I wouldn't expect it too soon.

I believe after the expansion for sure...

SHIT MY BAD §wall §wall §wall

ATTENTION

If you want to make paladins armor a little bit darker, you can rename the

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S2.tga

to

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S1.tga

That means the normal map of paladins armor doesnt work in case you will change the "_S2" to "_S1" Thats why it is so bright right now because the engine
doesnt use the normal map...i made a mistake and named the normal map ..._S2 instead of ..._S1

So if you want to change that, rename the

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S2.tga

to

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S1.tga

But that will make the paladin armor darker...

It is better though withought the normal map as it is (the bright version)

ALSO you can delete the file G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_normal_S3.tga

Since it doesnt make any huge difference. The rebel armor will become slightly brighter if you will do that...

WernerTWC

This is also a useful info, but not the "insert-code" i meant, i mean the insert-codes from this list:
http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic3/?go=g3insert

Give a hint how everybody can check the changes, i.e.:
To test this change, type:
goto NPCxyz
or
spawn IT_xyz

An example how it would be imho perfect in order to check things:

Changed file(s):

G3_Human_Paladin_Body_normal_S2.tga

Test cheat:
spawn It_Armor_Paladin (i hope this is the correct cheat for that example).

--------------------------------

Maybe its just you didnt noticed the changes?
Could be.

Then if not a tga file, then in what format i have to make them? What the other moders have done differently?
TGA's are cool, the engine recompiles it to ximg which one can pack into those *pak-files.

Maybe you havent seen the other orcs that wear the other armor yet?
See above,... a test cheat would be cool, you can imagine that i have not all day long to run around and take a look to every orc,... in this case it would be a "goto" (or "spawn") command to one named orc which wears it.

I believe after the expansion for sure...

I understand...My bad. I thought that you had already some saves with the armors equiped or with orcs nearby...The fact that you are spending your time with me into this testing thing ( not to meantion the fact that you lose your time posting here) is a true effort...and thanx for that. There arent many moderators who would do that...

http://img234.imageshack.us/img234/8612/capture6220077304495695ry8.th.jpghttp://img61.imageshack.us/img61/3640/capture6220077311095695xn5.th.jpg

But in the archive all about rebels armor are these files:
G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_Diffuse_S3.tga
G3_Human_RebMercenary_Body_normal_S3.tga
... and these two files are for one armor.

In general,... take more care in order to make things not so complicated.

... here the *pak-file so far, unrar this into your "Modification" folder:
http://rapidshare.com/files/16191340/Demoniums_textures_01.rar.html

You have now only to add the other things:
- Description.rtf can be changed with word-pad,
- general.ini can be changed with a simple text-editor,
- Thumb.jpg can be changed with a graphic-edito (MSPaint/PS,...).

This are cheats, but these:

spawn Body_Paladin works for me.

Whats the difference? i spawned these into the game and they work. What else do you want? To add orc elites armor into your inventory? And all the cheats i found them into the link you gave me...Wow!!! I am not talking about the Orc armor. I am talking about the armor that Orc elites are wearing...you cant add this armor into inventory. You can only spawn these 2 types of orcs...to see the changes i have done on their armors...

Well sounds funny but dont freak out. Its not my fault. They used 1 texture for 2 different models:D I dont know why. Some members of PB were lazy maybe.

So it is 1 texture for 2 armors...and works...Simple and less space to use...

Sorry but it is my first mode...The next time things will be less complicated...
I was into the total war forums by the way and i have downloaded MANY modifications in my life generaly...well, i have to inform you that all modifications were withought any screenshots at all and you even had to replace the note pad changes by yourself...So i think my modification was not that complicated to use...

Come on now, why all this mess for? the screenshots are fine and the "read me" file also...They take over less space the way they are now...

By the way, if someone wants to see the changes or the screenshots, he can just visit this thread...

What's so hard to believe? When you're making dozens of textures you have to spare what you can.
In g2 the textures are the files that take the most disk space (excluding audio files of course). You can't put duplicate-triple files that have the same data, it's redundant.

A mess is what you're making by constantly adding .pXX files in the Data folder ;)

Well, if the space was their problem , they could make G3 to be saled on 2 DVDs
And add new models also...This isnt an excuse. Rebels armors and Orc mercenaries armors are the same with a color difference. Rediculous IMO for 2 hostile factions...
The game has very few armors and some of them are the same models with different textures/color patterns. Thats a comedy...How Oblivion has so many and different armors with different textures etc...and its only 1 DVD?

Anyway, i call this unfinished/rushed work...And noone can prove me the opossite.

 What is .pXX files??? I dont remember adding such files into any Data directory...

Ok, you go and develop a game on 2 DVD's and tell the publisher that you can develop it on 1 DVD but decided to put some duplicate files wich makes the game to compress on 2 DVD's not 1. :D I'll be interested in what the publisher will have to say.
Think that the publisher is the one that pays for the creation of the dvd's :p Instead of making 2 milions dvd's they will make 4 milions and will have to increase the price of the game of course.

Anyway, i call this unfinished/rushed work...And noone can prove me the opossite.

You call it that. I'll call it efficient work ;)

*g* i'm talking about p01, p02, etc files. :)

This may require another thread to be created, but I am looking for the .ximg files for certain items. I could not find "skins" for treasure chests or weapon bundles. I did the HUD icons for them, but this does me no good. I looked through all the folders a couple times and I'm just not seeing them. I always thought the bundles of weapons blended in too much with ground. So, I'd like to edit the skin. This is the same for "Special" chests since many times you cannot tell from a distance what kind of chest they are. Any ideas?

Items (swords to chests etc) cannot be changed like the armor textures. They are in a xmsch format. There isn't any editor that can convert 'em to tgas or anything like that. As far as i know the xmsch format should be a model with the texture on it. We'll see when the editor will be released.

I don't think that it can affect the armor. It is a file of a model preface or something like that maybe.

§welcome to the forum!

You don't have to open that file, you just have to rename it and move it to the correct folder, which would be something like this:

E:\Gothic3\Data\

You will see there files like this already:

_compiledImage.pak
_compiledImage.p00
_compiledImage.p01

(depends on the patch you have installed).

Look what is the last number in your game-folder, rename the downloaded file one number higher and move it to your game folder (like shown above).
