Dam!! But what about opening the binary files after extracting the pak files?
But just tried your tool and its cool but cant i extract anything? I see there all in ximg format. By the way could you do a version in english?
Dam!! But what about opening the binary files after extracting the pak files?Well, if you have the time to analyse the internal file formats - go ahead :)
(PB doesn't need/have a "decompiler", because they have the raw/source files...)
I see there all in ximg format.Fizzban has developed a XIMG->TGA converter (same thread, posting #28)...
By the way could you do a version in english? My tools (G3Pak and G3PakDir) are in English (Denglish ;))
(see posting #24 and #26)
ps: you should use G3Pak, because G3Explorer doesn't support "deleted" files in patch volumes (yet)

Brilliant thanks for the help.
Just one other question is it possible to dissable the music other than turning it down? May improve performance!
is it possible to dissable the music other than turning it down?I don't know. Have a look at the ge3.ini und the UserOptions.ini.

I searched for it too. Found no option. Only turning it down. Most likely at 0 volume the sound shuts down(that would be an inteligent move) or it's just the volume lowered(not so inteligent move).
Either than that, i sensed no improvements in performance(and with my pc i could sense it since the game can't be played at my current specs)
@Nico
Do you happen to know anything on how will the mdk be structured?(api, scripting language, etc)
PS : About pak files...shouldn't they be readable by WinZIP?

The files indicate that C++ was used to implement the "game scripts".

It is a proprietary file format, that was developed for Gothic III.
See post #24 (http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/showthread.php?p=2487521&#post2487521) for an analysis (a lot of guesswork)...

Ahh...so the .pak format for G3 has nothing to do with the known quake format. Seems reasonable actually....it's not really nice to have game resources available for depacking with a common program like WinZIP or what other tools are out there.

Well most likely modding will not be so simple like it was with daedalus.
But the most important thing is that in this way modding will have more flexibility.

thanks for the help guys. Ill have another ponder aroung the ini files.
@ NicoDE
I see that you have experience in craking open pak files just wondering if you could do me a favour it is for another game and i want to open the pak files but tried everything with no avail. Its a new game called joint task force. If you could tell me how i could get the info on the paks and send it you could you whip me a tool up for extracting and recompiling??
I know you may not do it but ide thought ide ask.
Thanks in advance.
so the .pak format for G3 has nothing to do with the known quake format.Besides the file extension, nothing at all.
Seems reasonable actually....it's not really nice to have game resources available for depacking with a common program like WinZIP or what other tools are out there.Which game developer really cares about unpacking? The main reasons for a proprietary format are speed and features (identifiers must be unique, files can be marked as "deleted", and so on).
Well most likely modding will not be so simple like it was with daedalus.Who knows, maybe the editor is doing most of the work...
...we'll see.

I'm not a game developer.
That was just a guess. A wrong one, but still a guess :D
Still, i'm going to make an assumption here...why isn't there one and good file format for game resources that can be used by anyone?

If you could tell me how i could get the info on the paks and send it you could you whip me a tool up for extracting and recompiling?Besides the fact that I do not own this game (I don't like shooters at all :)), I have a full-time job and a son that is only seven weeks old.
I do not have the time to start another private project. I'm sure that there are other developers around who are able to analyse your game files...
why isn't there one and good file format for game resources that can be used by anyone?I really don't know.
It would be better to use working code... but developers tend to write their own implementation of Foo ;)
