Gothic 2 1-H or 2-H

I'm playing Gothic 2:Gold which includes NOTR, but I don't think it will make a difference for this question. I'd like to take a poll: Do you prefer or 1 or 2 handers in Gothic 2 and why?

Most people seem to prefer 2 handers because of the farther range and higher damage. I've been trying them both out, and so far I like the 1 handers better. They're faster so you can get more hits in and don't leave yourself open as much. They seem to be easier to use if you want to time your attacks and block your opponent's blows. I'm very new to this however, and am probably missing a lot of things. I haven't tried using 2 handers against multiple mobs or really big creatures like trolls who have a long range. I bet a 2 hander has advantages in those situations.

I'd like to hear what you guys think.

My personal choice are one handed cause they are faster. But i also like 2 handed for more damage. :D

I know this will sound like sacrilege coming from the boards resident Templar but I prefer 1h weapons over 2h. Both have their advantages and disadvantages so from that standpoint there isn't much of a difference. 1h, IMO, is better when dueling NPC's, orcs, and skeletons. The extra speed when striking and blocking makes all the difference. 2h is better against creatures like wolves, shadowbeasts, lizards, etc. These things can't be blocked so the extra range and power is most helpful. There are plenty of reasons to go with either of them, or to not go with one or the other.

For me it's a matter of style. I prefer the look of the character with the sword at his side. I prefer the look when he's about to go into combat. I prefer the combat style. The 1h looks like a parrying type weapon and I like to parry where as the 2h looks more like a toe to toe type weapon, where one stands his ground. I like the movement of the 1h sword, and the combos look more natural coming from the 1h.

I prefer two handers. Because they require more str, wich means that they deal a lot more damage, they have longer range and they fir on every armor:D

2-h! I played Gothic² with 1-h and it sucks. All humanoid enemies with 2-h had a greater range than me and I always had to make a step into their weapons to get the possibility to hit them.

2h all the way!!! I used 1h first time I played G2(not notr) and skeletons OWNED me even with good blocks they could hit me b4 I could hit them and that was a huge problem. The neat thing with 2h is that if the enemy steps back to doge your blow they are too far to take advantage of you missing. The additional range alone is enough to make 2h superior to 1h, but you also get a huge bonus to damage!!!

1H!! I love Scar's Sword/OrcSlayer when you master 1H skill, and for the range thing, is not a prob, because I alway have enough str to compensate that.-

PS I like the way two weapons in the early video of G3 look, and I made a little cheat, so you can play at least with the two weapons on yourself, so If you have to fight a skeletton/etc, you can use your 2 Hander, and if you want to fight lot of monster/etc you can switch to 1Hand if you like...:cool:

realy cool, the guy has 2 2h sowrds, and 1 1h sword!
and the armor looks like the pal armor, but doesnt have helmet, and it looks a litel difrent!

i like 1h, but only because they are faster! but i dont like too have them on the belt, so i dont like too use them at all! i prefare the 2h because look cooler, and they can keep an enimy at a good distance!
its great that in gothic3 there will be more skills, then just 1h and 2h for fighting!:D :D :D

and how have u geted 3 swords at once???!!!
i can get 2 swords in the back, but not like that, and what is the x-bow? i dont have nothing like that! when i get 2 swords at once its with on at 2h, and the other with the crossbow flags, that way i get 2 2h at back, but they stay in the same side, not like in ur picture!!!:confused:

1-H! I know 2-H has a larger range, but for the most part a swing takes such a long time, that the enemy closes in. I´m speaking here of shadow beasts and not zombies! With 1-H you can reach a much higher frequency and thus keep the foes away! It worked for me much better than 2-H. Although, I have to admit that 2-H looks errrrrr cooler :cool: .

2H weapons. They have big range of attack and much damage, plus if you know how to use them they can be much more effective than the 1h. @DonQu You could try to wait till it tackles and then attack.It will withdraw thanks to the damage recoil,then you can attack it again. (fortunately, Gothic isn't unrealistic, unlike oblivion, where even if you had a powerful weapon, the most powerful and the greater skill ever, the great enemies would still not recoil). But even if it manages to attack after yours, then you can always block. ;)

First time I played gothic i used 2-H weapons cos' I owned with them but when I played through notr i coudn't handle high strength 2-H weapons so I swiched over to 1-H

I like 1H weapons.They're moving more fast then 2H :P.

I voted for two-handers for a couple of reasons;

They're heavier.
They're bigger.
They do more damage.
They have better range (usually).
They're more difficult to master, especially for graceful moves. So if someone fights gracefully with a two-hander, beware.
And they're, in my opinion, more beautiful.

1H for sure! In the beginning, in my first playthroughs i liked 2H-weapons more than 1H, but maybe this was because i was used to them from g1. But the first time i played with 1H-weapons i thought "wow, how easy is this",... and it's imho a little bit more stylish to fight the 1H-style.
... you can imagine what i voted for. :D

I think this is a question that you never should reason with. The most important thing about your character is that YOU like playing with him, not because he does +1.3% more damage etc. (Good) Roleplaying games never has focused on numbers, but rather on the storytelling and the living virtual world. The statistics are just helping and never should be the main thing. I myself never consider hack-and-slash games like Diablo and such to be a real RPG.

So my answer: 2-H, because they make my character feel like brutal and barbaric warrior with great strength, ARRR!!!:mad:
