Hi,
Recently I decided to come back to good old G2 NotR and play as a mage....
I remember that last time I played it was very hard for me to get to the decent level, but close to the end I was just ANNIHILATING enemies with Rain of Fire, etc (last battle: "Who told you to die!? Stand up and fight!!!!!")
Anyway I would like to ask for your opinion which spells are best for assigned chapter... Are the water spells any good? Maybe summons would be better than blunt fireball (which BTW sucks in G2..).
What about Beliar spells? I tried to use some swarm like spell, but it dealt less damage than fire arrow to the ork...
The Dust Devil is actually a pretty useful spell. And the Water Fist too. Not to mention they look cool. ;)

Well yeah. A good Fireball is always useful. Lightning from the 4th Circle is also one of the most powerful single creature spells in the game.
And the Large Fireball is good too. Rain of Fire is a must. And also make sure to get Ice block and Wave of Ice. Freeze them first and then burn them. They won't be able to stand against you. An Ice Block is innefective against Dragons but a Wave of Ice freezes even the Undead Dragon.

Do not underestimate the usefulness of Fear. It may not kill your enemies, but it will affect basically all creatures, from low level juvenile scavengers to lizard men, shadowbeasts, Seekers and so on, and is an area spell. The effects last pretty long, certainly long enough for you to get away or past the foes, so it's a great spell to deal with foes you're still too weak for otherwise. For example, once I cleared my way to the dragon in the volcano this way, and ensured the area around the circle of the sun was safe so I could pick up the Eye - later I returned to kill the Seekers there.
Also, I find that even low-level summoning runes can be useful especially against single foes, as they may distract/tie down the enemy long enough for you to kill him with some other means, whether they be some other spell or weapons.
You basically need the following spells to pass through the game
Fireball
Ice Block
Heal
Summon Skeleton
Lightning circle 4
Summon Demon
Summon Army of Darkness
Ice Wave
Rain of Fire - this one is a must
Wave of Death(optional, it's just cool so I always take it)
everything else is just optional.
Ok,
So Circle 1 and 2 are preety selfexplanatory (no access to Jarkendar yet):
Circle 1 - Fire arrow - obvious
Summon Goblin can be found (I killed 2 dragos with it;) ), not sure if there is any reason to waste rune on it.
Cirlce 2 - Fireball
Windfist was usless in Gothic 1, not sure if it is better here.
3 and so on? Besides Ice block of course

3rd circle:
-Fireball is still good at this point so use it
-Summon Skeleton
-Ice Block
4:
-Lightning. This is a must
5 & 6:
-Summon Demon

@ Wojtek: Yes get a rune for Wind Fist too.. it is extremely powerful against humans (Seekers, Bandits and so on). It does not even expend a lot of mana so yes it also is quite useful. I passed Chapter 3 with the use of Wind Fist against the Seekers only.
Oh and in Gothic 1 if you cast wind fist immediately without charging it is a mana free spell... just a hint. :)

Yeah sometimes I went in a run in Ch1 to kill the Golem and get the heart for that free spam:D, but also sometimes enemy dies from FALLING and not from the wind fist and you do not get xp:P

Yeah that is one of the things that suck... I used the wind fist (or was it the storm fist?) against those skeletons in that lighthouse (that weird ass name quest) and there were flying bones everywhere :p

You get plenty of exp anyway so why not have some fun?
What about Destroy Undead?
Was quite usefull in G1, and Skeletions are very hard to kill.

Too bad none of the NPCs at Onar's farm know that spell, I like to have
the skeletons and goblins chase me back to the house and watch all hell break loose. I just can't help it. Things are so static there it's good
to shake things up:D
