Hey.

So today I bought Gothic II Gold Edition, installed it and it doesn't launch! It shows up in the task manager, but that's it.

I've updated my drivers, I'm running windows XP, I tried running as admin, tried reinstalling many times in different directories, tried restarting my PC. Don't know what to do. Been trying to fix this all day, nothing works.

Well the problem is that some program is blocking your Gothic 2...like Ymass or others...try close everything before that.

Everything is quite broad, but I'll try. Though after closing some programs, I get a little 1 minute shutdown timer, because I turned off something I shouldn't have.

EDIT: Well, tried turning off any programs I could think of without making the PC shutdown, didn't help. Though after shutting down some stuff that made that computer turn off in a minute, when everything was turning off, the little Gothic banner came up - so I imagine as everything was shutting down, the program that's blocking Gothic turned off before the Gothic itself in the processes.

Now how to find it, and what if that program would also make my PC shut down.

Well, this doesn't really sound like a Gothic problem. You should probably be asking in the forum of the program that is blocking gothic2.exe from loading.

Anyway, restart the computer, then close all open windows until you only see the desktop. Then exit all programs that are running in the systray (next to the clock), any that are lacking an option to "close" or "exit" you will have to end task, until the only icon next to the clock is the Windows sound volume icon. Now try to run G2.

If it still doesn't load, then I don't know what to suggest (because I don't know what's running on your machine) other than to sort task manager by "Mem usage" and start to end task one process at a time from the largest down. Try to run G2 after each process you close, but don't close svchost.exe, explorer.exe, smss.exe, csrss.exe, services.exe, winlogon.exe or lsass.exe.

I do truly love you right now.

Yep, like a charm.

Usually when a game gets blocked it's by the firewall of the windows or more rarely by an anti-virus, so sometimes you need to go to it and manually add the game you want in it's exceptions.

I like you as a friend.

This is true. If you can do that, it will save you the trouble every time you want to play G2. However, if you're having trouble even identifying the software that's running, you might not be able to configure it.

Either way, if you do terminate all of your programs before playing, just remember once you have finished playing (and/or before you go onto the internet) to restart your computer so that all of your programs are running again.
