Hi! I finally got the first Gothic 1 and am now playing and I'm having trouble finding the recipe for Dexter. I've followed this guy to the Swamp Camp and talked to Lester; however, I've followed him to all of his options there isn't anyone named Cor Khalom nor can I find any chests.

Also is there supposed to be a Shadowbeast roaming around in the castle dungeon? I found that strange.

cor khalom is in one of the huts (this one is his lab) above Fortuno's shop in the swamp camp, with his bodyguard guarding the entrance. try there §wink

and a shadowbeast in a castle dungeon? probably a small bug...:dnuhr:

Ha! LoL! I saw that guy from earlier; but, was afraid to enter. I had tried to enter some other huts and people came at me with threats. I didn't want the whole camp after me with a death warrant so didn't enter. I also didn't see any chests or anyone inside either so I thought that the hut was empty like most of the others. Does anyone know how to get in the right chest or what's in it?

As for the shadow beast it was rather funny in a way. I was going back into the castle my second time for a more thorough explore. I hadn't signed on with the camp through Gomez (didn't like him) so I wasn't sure that I would be allowed to enter.

I'd just gotten past the guards at the front gate when I heard the sound of blades clearing and naturally thought that everyone was coming for me. (I had that sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach) when I noticed that they were running toward the barracks area. They had crossbows out and swords drawn; but, were just standing there. A couple of guards came running out of the barracks and after that nothing else was happening. Just people standing around with their weapons out.

I decided to investigate this mystery. Nothing happened until I started down the ramp to the underground area and then another guard came running past me. Even more intrigued I continued cautiously and with much apprehension. I got to a corner and came face to face with this Shadowbeast. I wasn't strong enough to fight one of these creatures and I didn't even have a weapon out so I just knew I was going to die. The beast got hung up on the corner and I managed to kill it. The whole episode was one big surprise.

That shadowbeast inside the castle is a bug, but a funny bug.
That beast is to big to move in the dungeon, so i'm not surprised the he got stuck in the wall. Easy earned xp this way!!

It is involved in part of the main story line of the gameThe right chest in Cor Kalom's hut contains the focus stone and the almanac you collect for the great invocation. After certain events Cor Angar will give you the key for the chest

And the recipe is not inside that chest, but in the other one.
You can pick that lock in chapter 1.
I don't remember the correct combination, but you can save before trying.
If you brake the lockpick just reload and try again.

Hey Everybody! Thanks for the great and informative replies. I've already got that recipe and now I have another issue; but, I think I should post it in another thread.

Thanks again.

Hi! The Shadowbeast was back. This time when I came back to the Old Camp and went toward the Castle I again heard the weapon sound; but, by the time I had cleared the recipe quest and got admitted to the castle area it was all over. When I got inside there were several dead guards and a dead shadowbeast up by the grill area.

I figure that this beast is from an earlier part of the game in either my first or second save. I came across one and barely managed to get away by climbing a ledge. It was struggling to get at me through the ledge so I left it there. I figure that it managed to get under the world somehow and simply came out somewhere in the dungeon. At least that's my premise.

I'm going to play around with this and see if I can utilize the distraction and rob whatever I can as all the guards attention seems to be on the beast.

What do you think? Plausible?

Still really weird for a Schattenlaufer to turn up inside the castle. o.0
First time I hear of it, infact.
Are you certain you didn't insert it using marvin mode?

Does that work in G1? How can I do this and where can I find the codes?

I think I'm level 2-3 and I keep getting killed. It would be nice to at least have a decent weapon. Usually if I climb something I can shoot (?); however, I've been having a hard time finding enough arrows. With the dmg. my bow does, I soon run out and then I'm stuck on a rock with beasts that don't leave and some of them can even climb. A better bow that deals more dmg. would be very nice.

I heard/read somewhere that an NPC named Bullit? has a better weapon; but, I haven't ran across him yet. I would appreciate it if someone can point me in his direction and tell me how much it costs? Is it any better than the Judgement Blade I took from a corps in the courtyard?

I've been investing my points in sneak and lock-picking so everything else is rather low atm. Also, how does this pick-pocketing work. I would like to learn this as req for a thief character.

Don't get started on those.

Stick to Scavenger and Molerats in the beginning, and get some quests done.

Richtschwert does 30 damage at 12 strength requirement, right?
You might be able to buy the Kampfschwert from Skip in the castle for 111 ore if you choose the right dialogue option (I'll kick your arse if you don't sell me a weapon.). Other option might be to go to the old mine, all the way down and look for a Steinbrecher (Mace). Then again, if you can enter the castle, you might as well pick the locks on one of the chests near Stone (he doesn't mind) and grab a rusty two-hander (61 damage/30 str required).

Pick-pocketing is used with dialogue options, I think, and the success is based on dexterity. (At least, that's how it works in G2). Also, learning how to fight is much more important early on.

pickpocket skill is really a waste of points this early in the game.I never invest any points in lock picking, just save game before trying, once you have the correct combo reload then open the chest.

getting started:
Colllect all items you can on the way down to the old camp, but avoid all beasts for the moment. When you get to the camp speak to Thorus and Diego.

Go to Whistler and offer to get his sword from Fisk,He will give you 100 ore for the sword. When you ask Fisk about the sword he asks for 110 ore.Go back to Whistler and get 10 more ore.Do not buy the sword yet.Go past Fisk to meet Dexter. He asks you to get a recipe from the sect camp, get 50 or from him.

Now go to Huno the blacksmith and buy 4 raw steel(40 ore each),make the swords and the sell them back to him(50 ore each)for more raw steel.repeat the process as many times as you like and you will eventually have a lot of swords.Do not forget to get back the 160 ore before you leave.

See Dexter and sell him some swords for all of his ore(200 ore)

Now return to Fisk and buy the sword for Whistler.Sell some swords to Fisk to get all of his ore(should be over 300 ore).ask Fisk about armor and buy the one for 500 ore(+15 weapon defense).Next trade swords for all of the ore plus buy the Diggers Discipline sword(20 dmg/10 str)

Go and give Whistler his sword(200 exp).Equip your armor and sword

Talk to,in this order,Sly,Fletcher and Snaf.Sly asks you to find Nek and suggests you talk to Fletcher,Fletcher is unhappy because nek is missing so he has to do Nek's job. When you ask where Nek went Fletcher suggests you ask the diggers.Talk to Snaf and agree to get the ingedients for him,he tells you that the last guy he sent looking for the mushrooms never came back.ask him who he sent and he tells you it was Nek.

Exit the camp and go to the right you will see a small cave with 3 molerats in front.Draw them off one at a time and kill them.you will find Nek inside the cave.take his amulet(+5 weapon defense) and equip it.Do not report back to Sly at this time.

Now you are ready to begin killing scavengers and molerats.

Is it a waste of time?

In G2 there were spec. keys that you could lift as well as spec. items such as the ledger from the money lender or that key from Pek for finding that Joe character. And, as a thief type character it is always fun just to lift things right in front of people.

However, I've learned pickpocketing and I have yet to find anyone to pick. The conversation doesn't come up. I thought that maybe there might be a special key sequence that I needed to engage. Maybe enter sneak mode from behind etc.?

I've finally managed to snag a Long Bow and my preferred method of dealing with critters is to shoot them from a distance. This method is usually quite effective against most creatures big or small, well except for trolls.

Anyway I am having a blast.

As for that shadowbeast, I am almost positive that the beast came from below world. I was knocked under/into it by this Golem up by that lake area and walked a long way before finally coming out somewhere near that Cavalorn character. I wish I had saved it while there so I could explore that world further. Almost like walking/navigating in a dream.
