I cannot install it, the install button just stays gray and you can't click on it. I think it's because I have gog.com version of Gothic 2 gold and the patch can't recognize it. Is it possible to get extracted contents of this patch somewhere?

No,i think you need the Gothic 2 vers 2.6 or you have it ? not ? install then.

The vdfs-patch is for g2, not for it's addon (NotR).

See, I have this problem with starting the game sometimes. I was reading this thread and you said that the vdfs patch may help. That's why I assumed that I may need to install it. Any idea why I have this problem? I am pretty sure it has nothing to do with my firewall or antivirus.

On an older PC of mine it happend that sometimes (not every time) the startup took kinda very long, ... like 5-15 Minutes, ... could it be that you just didn't wait long enough?

That's caused by a process blocking it, I think.
Had that with Dawn of War: Dark Crusade for a while (seriously, over 10 minutes before it'd run).
