[G2] [Release] Vurt's Gothic II Texture Pack
New mod / thread here: http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...phics-Overhaul
Vurt's Gothic II Texture Pack v0.2
Features:
* 382 new or improved textures including skies, grass/flora, rocks, ground and road textures, armors & weapons.
* A few new meshes such as thicker grass and rye
This mod was created in a period of 2 weeks so don't expect a complete overhaul and don't expect every texture be perfect.
It was meant to be a small replacer for my personal use for some of the textures i didn't like, but the mod grew into this "partial overhaul".
Have fun and i hope you enjoy the mod!

Brilliant job mate.
Does it work with other Gothic II mod's and old save games? How about the Addon - Night of the Raven?
-
It works with Night of the Raven and old save games shouldnt be a problem.
The way it reads vdf files (as i understand it) is that it uses files from the most recent .vdf it finds, so it should work with any mod too since my mod is just textures.

Is it possible to have a download that would not involve the use of torrents?

So I guess we have to rename this file to Textures and copy it in the Data folder (i.e. replace the old file Textures.vdf with this one provided by you).
Correct me if I am wrong.
Edit: Ye it work's this way but after a while my game freezes and task manager it's reporting that the program is no longer responding. I wish I could fix this somehow.
Great job, I must admit it look's like a new world 'unexplored'.

There's no need to rename anything. It reads all .vdf files and uses them accordingly. If it finds 2 texture .vdf's it should read and use the textures from the latest one and use textures that it can't find from other .vdf files including the default textures.vdf file that comes with the game.
correct me if im wrong someone
No idea why the game freezes for you, but you should not remove the original textures file or rename mine like it..

great job mate

Yup you are right about the vdf files, and for the freeze problem is still trying my nerve's.

Kudos to you, the gameworld is GORGEOUS now.
It could do with some other minor tweaks here and there but I gotta give shake your hand and give you a beerkeg for all the effort - visually the game looks awesome!
P.S. If you are looking for some ideas to tweak on, say it here, we will be glad to suggest!
-
you're very welcome to post ideas and constructive criticism.
Can't say right now if i'm going to update it or not though, i'm working on Morrowind and Oblivion mods + gonna try to help out with 2 indie games, so i'm quite busy

Question: I seem to remember that you had molerats and wolves changed in some of the screenshots... did they not make to the final version? The resolution and texture of the current ones looks better than usual but I wonder if there should be a distinctive art associated (i have both the texture ICP and yours installed, though yours is newer).
-
The wolf and molerat textures are both in.
-
Dude, the game rocks! I have 16x anisotropic 8x AA and the game looks sweeeeeet.
Does this mod mainly affect Khorinis/Vom? No Jharkendar related material?
EDIT: Hmmm, removed ICP texture pack but apparently the wolf/molerat art is still missing. Also young wolves look just like the usual gothic wolves :/

It mainly affects the begining of the game and also ground, flora, and rock textures in The Old World.
MOL_BODY_V0-C.TEX
WOL_BODY_V0-C.TEX
WARG-C.TEX
are all in, i just checked the .vdf.. the difference might not be that noticeable for these creatures maybe.
-
Hmmm... I checked your file and I found them indeed. Initially I thought you included the versions from your screenshots (where the molerats had dark leathery color, thought the same about wolves but may have been wrong). If these indeed work as intended without me noticing, I have one more question: when are the updated loading sections due? When loading areas or savegames? I tried erasing older textures but that did not help so I figure these loading screens are based on locations.
Otherwise, I wonder why they do not work.
P.S. How do you convert the tex into an image?
-
hmm can't remember if i redid the molerat texture, maybe i did. could be that the lightning is different in the screenshot too..
the loading screens comes when you load for example the old world or any other section of the game that requires loading.
.tex to .tga is possible with for example GoMan.
-
Argh, we shall see. Going to start playing again the day after tomorrow.
-
I'm installing GII + Addon right now, and you can't imagine how happy I am to play it with this mod
but beside of this, I have a question,
is it possible to install your texture mod with a balance mod together?
That would be great.
