Great! A true Gothic game!
-
Not as bad as people predicted. It's quite good.
-
It's an OK RPG, but it ain't Gothic, no way.
-
Meh, I knew it'd turn out this way.
-
Gonna wait a while. Not worth the full price, that's for sure.
-
What?! I'm wanting a refund for my lost traffic. X(
-
Haven't played it.
-
Downloaded it, but it wouldn't work (technical difficulties).

Played and finished the demo on Normal Difficulty (couldn't figure out how to play/replay on any harder difficulties) and I liked it so far.
I'll preface by saying that I love the original Gothics just as much as the next guy, and yet still found great enjoyment in Gothic 3. I approached this trying to keep an open mind.
First, the positives:
-Beautiful graphics (which I know most of you don't care about/actively hate anyone who does): Helps to create an immersive world for me, in particular having land with interesting and memorable geometry. I think this will be the case, which in my opinion is a very good asset when compared with the generic hills and plains of a game like oblivion.
-Great Performance: Runs better than Risen, and even Gothic 3 on my computer, while looking better than them both. Might just be the fact that its only a small demo, but it ran faster than I'd seen on any video.
(I do have a good computer though - i7 930, HD5850, 6gb RAM)
-Good menus/ease of access for doing things: Very easy and quick to take all from monsters/chests, pick things up, switch weapons and eat things.
-Combat: While its not as skillful as the Gothic games based on what I've played, it seems more fast-paced and reasonably entertaining. Enjoyed switching to magic and then back to melee. Sound effects do a lot to help this I think, since they made all the fighting seem very tactile.
-There's a sprint rune Dunno if it'll be as easy to find in the final game, but it made getting around a lot easier.
-After I turned off all the 'Arcania' specific settings (glow, minimap etc), I couldn't really notice any 'dumbing-down' for the quests over other Gothic games. One small thing was that potions had a bit of a swirly magic thing around them, and plants had a bit of sparkles, but these just made them look more interesting IMO.
And some negatives:
-Whenever you talk to someone it fades to black and starts a cutscene-esque dialoge. This is a lot less efficient than the old system, and could get tedious very quickly.
-Diego is Spanish....very Spanish (and for those of you who aren't gonna play, Diego is your friend/mentor and you don't kill him like some previously thought)
-Some control idiosyncrasies are different from previous Gothic games, and these will take some getting used to. Not much of a detractor though. (For instance, you know press the action button to pick things up rather than the left mouse button, which will instead draw your weapon).
-The orc had a faint British accent, which annoyed me (that said, I do like the orc models, which are something of a middleground between Gothic 1&2 and Gothic 3.)
Overall, I'm keen to play the full game and see what its like when the story actually picks up.
Reminded me quite a bit of Risen, but that could just be due to all the British accents
-
Just a quick look so far.
It runs very bad on my system, even on 'low'. I don't like how the camera zooms in/out when the weapon is equipped/unequipped and I can't seem to find a setting to change it.
When starting the demo, the max difficulty is normal, once the game is running I can set it to hard. Why not make all the difficulties available?

can you tell me what config do you have

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750
3GB RAM
Nvidia 7800GTX
XP
The only thing would be to try with a very low resolution also, now I get 8-15 fps.
And I hate the invisible walls.

It works fine on high settings here. Similar rig, weaker processor, stronger gpu.

I also noticed some invisible walls (around the ocean area, same as in risen). Also there was that weird thing where if you were going to walk of a ledge and fall a hurtful distance you would be stopped, but you could still jump off.
Hoping that goes away on higher difficulty.
Also the camera thing is a bit annoying, there is a button to change zoom but I can't figure out how to use it

I was trying to get past that dude on the bridge, as a alternate way (like if I don't want to complete those quests). Invisible walls there too.

From input.xml:
<Input command="screenshot" >
<Key code="183" />
<Activation type="first active" />
</Input>
<Input command="screenshot" >
<Key code="183" />
<Activation type="first active" />
</Input>
<Input command="bigscreenshot" >
<Key code="183" />
<Key code="42" />
<Activation type="first active" />
</Input>
But what keys have the code 183 or 42 I don't know.

I am sure that you can change it there to any other what you like .

In my humble opinion, the combat system is pretty poor, seriously, you roll around, can't hit enemies prepairing an attack. (you see it with a green glow) and so on, but that may be because I play on hard...

Yeah, you can change it, but if a screenshot is made, I don't know. I can't find it anywhere. Put the code 67, and changed quick load to 66. The quickload doesn't work with F9 now, but neither the screenshot.

By the way, where I can report bug or ask technical help about Demo ? Can I do that there ? The problem lies in my hardware - it is lowest than min req. My hardware :
- Win XP - 64bit.
- Athlon 64 3200+ (2 GHz)
- 4GB RAM
- ATI X1300 256 Mb
I can run the game. I set all settings to the low and start the game. So, after 1 min (when we see few arts/screenshots with hints) I hear how my hero speaking with Avi (not sure about her name). But I can just hear what's happening, but on the screen I can see only last art with hint. During this, if I will try to press any keys, I hear that my hero is walking and e.t.c. - so all is working, but I can't see anything (the last art with hints displayed every time, but I can see mouse and it's works .
P.S. All drivers include PhysX was updated.

You can hit enemies while they're preparing their big attack, and it'll hurt them, but won't stop them from continuing their attack. The same thing existed in Gothic 3, and I reckon it makes sense.
At Larisa, yeah I tried to get past him to but to no avail. Hopefully those walls are just there for the demo? (Probably not). Also tried shooting all my arrows into his face haha.

Don't know anything official, on the German part they started collecting performance info (system info, how many fps, etc.).
Do you have anything forced in the video-card's driver?
Look in VideoSettings.xml, I've set some settings to false, like shadows and rim_light, now I have grey sheeps , but no major increase in fps.

Haven't tried it yet and i won't be able till around november atleast, so i got to ask...what's your first impression of the game with regards to it being part of the Gothic franchise? Do u get the " Gothic" wibe while playing?
