Last week I ordered gothic II at amazon.co.uk
Today (Thursday) the package arrived perfestly in time

I installed the game and all went smooth but when installation was finished i tried to start the game but i was surprised when i saw 2 pop up's, a small one saying:

"Message01
message01"


and one by norton antivirus saying:

"critical danger
virus detected

name: Hacktool.Rootkit
detected in: C:windows/system32/SVPK.sys
This file was unrepairable and is now in quarantine"

immediatly i ran virusscan on pc and started looking in system32 map
results:
nothing to be found in system32 map
virus scan complete no virusses detected

I look in northon at files in quaratine
result:
0 files in quarantine

I get a virus message but the virus is nowhere to be found

I shut down northon and see if it work's without virus scan:
Well i didn't get virus worning this time
but i did get Message01 Message01 pop up, in that message u can only click ok and then you will return to the desktop
no gothic II starting

I reïnstall the game to see if it works now.....
The virus messages stopped now, but i keep getting message01 message. and no gothic II.

My system has all requirements needed for Gothic II:
Windows XP
AMD +3800 2,4 Ghz
Sapphire x700pro GFX card
corsair twinx 2x 512 1024 Mb RAM

Who can help me in any way cuze i have no idea what to do with it
btw please respond in english cause my german is not that good

Welcome to the forum §welcome

Norton Internet Security obviously detects a part of the copy protection as a trojan (file: SKVP.SYS). This is a mistake. Do not delete the file. If you do so you cannot start Gothic II again.

Symantec has been informed about the problem today. I hope they will fix this soon.

When you want to play please deactivate the Norton suite before.

I move this thread into the technical support for Gothic.

Hey

Well since i reïnstalled the game the virus message has disappeared but i still get a small pop up named message01 and with the context "message01"
it doesn't make sence at all and if you click ok you return to the desktop. and no gothic 2 starting.......

i tried all ways trying to get it working, via shortcut, via start programs and from map but everytime it keeps saying message01.....

If the file of the copy protection is deleted somestimes even a new installation does not help.
I think the text of the box should be: "Error: Loader Couldn´t initialize service"
I don't know why it is missing.

Extract "svkp_fix.zip" somewhere and double click the file "SVKP_Fix.cmd".
Deactivate Norton before.
If this doesn't work with your version we will have to wait for Nico.

Besides the SVKP_Fix there is nothing I could do. We have to wait for:

• Norton, to fix the virus signature (like AntiVir does) or
• JoWooD, to release Gothic with another CP (unlikely?)

I don't know the meaning of 'message01' (Even if I would, I have to respect some NDAs...) - you have to ask the technical support about it (maybe they have to ask 'someone' too :] ).

But something weird happened
I also tried to install Gothic 2 on the pc of my bro

which is EXACTLY the same pc as I have, with same hardware and windows version
and gues what.....
no problem there.....

I installed SVPK_Fix and game running smooth now
