What was your problem? Continue to talk with Lares and you'll know the name of the first suspect. Entice him to the forest, then beat and plunder him - as a result you'll find almost all things which this NPC stole at Lares (except one). Certainly that the all NPCs involved in this quest should be alive:

If you have done the quest "Talk to Samuel about the destroyed mine" you will find Brix at this mine above the wolf mine.

I think that when you play on ''English'' it only displays ''Samuel's left hand'' and '' Samuel's right hand'', but if you change the text language to Deutsch it will display (I think) ''Brix, Samuels linke hand'' and ''Butch, Samuels rechte hand'' or something like that.
Then, when you find Brix, just kick his ass and take the stuff he stole .
