Maths doesn't suck, you do. And you know what, Maddox is right about that.

^Haha, that was a fun read. But I'd say this applies to any "I suck at [insert subject]" situation. On the other hand, it is a bit generalising in criticizing maths hatters, because those hatters are generalising too when they say they suck at maths in general. Having gone through several education systems, I can firmly say that maths here isn't the same as maths there.
Over in ma country, maths encompasses only pure maths, geometry, a bit of stats and...that's about it, whilst in the west they have a whole damn set of modules, including mechanics, thermodynamics, optics, indeed quite a bit of theoretical maths, logic/problem solving and it goes all the way to maths and philosophy. Every student gets a set of various things and odds are one of those will not be to his/her liking. Most of the time the choice is class based and so everyone is stuck with at least one or more options they don't like. And it is true: some like physics, but not maths; some like maths, but hate chemistry. All sciences, but require subtly different ways of thinking. What the hatters should really say is: I suck at this particular bit of maths, but the rest of it is okay.

Ya, true. But that's always been Maddox' style, confrontational and sort of generalizing on the surface whilst making astute, insightful observations and points beneath the "macho" phrasing.

The linguistics we're taught over at Uni also contain math -- but not a lot, just alphas and betas and stuff like that.

I shall make a point of reading more of his stuff. This kind of bluntness is rather.....soothing?

Brace yourself, there's more. One of my flatmates is a second year linguist at SOAS, and they have some really WEIRD maths. Like with no numbahs and pluses and minuses ->just symbols, the greek alphabet and some other lines and circles all crammed together. I think I'll keep my thermodynamics and radioactive decay over that stuff, thankyouverymuch.

Yeah, we've already studied the "slit O" and thetas and stuff.

How far is calculus (differential AND integral) useful in programming? (Serious question)
And by calculus I mean stuff like the integration of (sqrt(a)-sqrt(x))/(1-sqrt(a*x)).

I always read sqrt as squirt. lol

Yeah....good luck with that mate.

I recommend you do. I like his stuff. I don't always agree with him, and sometimes I think he's just being daft, but most of the time he's got something worth thinking about in his writings.

I suppose it depends heavily on what you do. What I do mostly, designing and implementing interfaces between databases, building different kinds of systems and platforms (GUI + DB), etc... not a whole lot. But the way of thinking, the logic, that's basically the same as in mathematics, physics, any mathematical subject. Some of the stuff I work or have worked on have been economic systems, and they contain some really heavy weight number wizardry, but I suppose that's stuff concocted by people with a degree in economics or summat.

I never liked math, so i didn't try. But when i did try, it wasn't that hard. Like he said, following a recipe. But i still can't think of any situation where i'd need math, i really don't. But maybe that's because my teachers all just told me "You have to learn math because the school says so!" They could've made up something for our dumb asses to get us to work, like 14 year olds would ever obey a school.

I've always wondered about a peculiar scenario:what if a woman who is about to squirt sat with her vagina against the bed(that is,the vagina would be completely sealed)?Would she be propelled upwards and fly?

Faby, since you seem to be the Elder Scrolls games modding specialist around here. I wanted to ask you a question. What are the most essential Oblivion mods?
