Can someone please tell me what good is a first-person rpg like
Skyrim when you can't see all the cool armors and helmets you
wear? Gothic, Two Worlds, Drakensang are like playing
with paper dolls...not that I've ever played with paper dolls

Skyrim has a third person view as well.

Have you tried it out? Is it good or is it as bad as Oblivion?

it's very consolish.
So it's worse than oblivion.

^LOL, you've got to try it out on your own.

What's a consolish third person view?
Personally, I find it's better than in previous instalments of the series, but still not good enough to play the whole game through with it.

When it's designed for consoles a.k.a for gamepads. It feels out of place with keyboard and mouse. At least thats how I'see it.

And the third person view in particular (as opposed to the first person view) is affected by this... how?

Personal preference.
I find it hard to believe that some one will find this kind of view comfortable with a mouse, at least in a game where precision is needed for the most part.

Aaaaah, so "consolish" is a synonym for "bad", and not actually related to consoles at all (because it's no better on consoles, which means it's not "consolish" as in designed to be used on consoles).

Just finished the Main Quests, as well as the College of Winterhold quests, in Skyrim and found the game to be so awesome that it makes Gothic 1-2-3 looks like an indie, budget title. Much better than Risen too, imo. I only play RPG (Gothic-like) games a couple of times a year and could see playing Skyrim for many, many years.
Addendum: And this is coming from someone who hated Morrowind and despised Oblivion.
Addendum2: I played it on a high-end PC with a keyboard and mouse. Took a little while to get the mapping to where I was comfortable (i.e., similar to what I am used to in Gothic 3) but didn't have any problems at all. It was harder than Gothic because you didn't have character lock when fighting but as a mage, that become irrelevant. I never played console game and cannot fathom using a controller, just my preference. So it worked well with a keyboard and mouse.

Ok... now you are just trolling me.
That's not what I mean, the third person camera is like on hack&slash games, which can be playd with keyboard and mouse but are much better win gamepad, that's exactly what I mean. And I'm bad at explaining myself so I doubt I managed to do it even now.
And I should stop with all of the off-topic.

That would only make sense if the 3rd person view worked any better on a console. But it doesn't in Skyrim. Also, there are plenty of good 3rd person action games that work perfectly well with mouse + keys, it is in no way a bad perspective for that control scheme by default.

Where did you get that? That's like saying Daggerfall looks better than The Witcher 2.

Arx Fatalis is a bit similar, good arpg anyway but you can only play in FP.

Well, it didn't tingle my senses, yet I cannot say it isn't any good. But, it really isn't similar at all to Gothic. The lore is totally different, the game mechanics are totally different, the visual style is totally different.
The closest thing to a Gothic game is Skyrim.

The closest thing to a Gothic game is Venetica/Risen.

Doesn't sound good Like M&M and other 1st person medieval rpg you create
your player and then you can't see them!

Risen gave me same feeling like playing G1 or G2.

The "over-the-shoulder" perspective of Witcher and M ount and Blade is just
annoying and unreal
