[WIP] GUI Tweaks, custom heads-up displays
JoWood Forums REL Thread: http://forum.jowood.com/showthread.php?t=133547
Updated to 0.5!
http://rapidshare.com/files/8321907/...k_0.5.zip.html
http://files.filefront.com//;6396970;;/
Well, this is going to be a shot in the dark - but I'd figure I would ask here .... I'm actually not sure which sub-forum to post this in
Noticed recently that the health/endurance/mana bars can be moved around the screen (similar to the xml files used in Oblivion) but I haven't been able to figure out how I can accomplish this in G3.
First saw this on a Czech site and have scoured the German forums for a hint, as the English forums don't seem to mention any tweaks like this .. yet, but am not getting anywhere. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Here's the screens from the Czech site that wet my appetite, http://gothicz.net/index.php?sekce=g...cument=screeny check out the screens towards the middle of the page.
Thanks in advance!
[Edit] No replies yet ... Here's a direct link to a screen, http://gothicz.net/images/g3/screeny/121.jpg
[Edit2] http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...d.php?t=170959
Looks like WernerTWC is on the right track ... maybe I can drum something up tonight.
[Edit3] Check it out http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...4&#post2761314

Those screens were from an earlier version of the game, the GUI wasn't final, but i think the bars like it was on that screens looking better, if i find a way how to do this, i'll let you know.

Wow, I got so wrapped up waiting for Oblivion's release I decided not to wait so attentivley for Gothic III I just bought the game last week and I didn't even realize those were older screenshots!
I didn't get a chance to test lastnight, it's very hard to pull away from this game now that I've got it running so smooth. Werner, I was wondering did you need to unpack/uncompress anything to get the 'X:/gamefolder/data/gui/icons/compiled/' directory?
Before I started this thread I took a brief look around the data files and couldn't locate any gui specific directories - maybe I just overlooked it???
I'll take another look tonight - I'll be trying to change the positions, colors and add transparency to the gui ... wish me luck!

Depends on what you wanna do. To get this folder, you can make in manually, or unpack the gui.rar's from Larisa or mine from here:
http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum...d.php?t=170959
If you wanna have the content from it you'll have to unpack the gui.pak.

Thanks, I've already experimented with modifying your gui.zip, but it seems like gui.pak is exactly what I was looking for.
[Edit]I've been playing around for awhile and can alter the health/endurance/mana bar colors but I seem to be having trouble creating transparent images that work ingame. Maybe I'm just having trouble when converting the image back to the original formats, ximg / dds?
I still can't figure out how to change the layout of the gui ... which is the whole point of this but I've only gone through gui and _compiledImage, I'll check out workspace and templates tonight

Take a look at the [gothic3]\Data\gui\resources\g3.gui.res (it is an XML-style file).

Thanks, I was thinking that myself but then I read this, http://www.telefragged.com/wally/tut...res_files.html and decided it didn't sound quite right.
"A RES file is simply a text file, containing a list of other files. The RES file goes along with your compiled BSP file."
er, I also couldn't find a program to view or edit it
[Edit]Wow, notepad is awesome! Looks like we have a winnner! Thanks NicoDE!

but I seem to be having trouble creating transparent images that work ingame.
|
|
to edit the transparency, you have to work with the alpha channel. use a photo editor who can work with channels (photoshop, corel photopaint, photoshop elements, and others).
usualy, the alpha channel has 2 color (black and white for me).
when you save the file, make sure to include transparency info.

While you are here ... i already tried around with this one, but i found there paths i don't know where to look for them, the me-confusing-paths are i.e. these with the "v3" in it, like this one:
"\data\gui\icons\hud\v3\slides\g3_hud_slide_00.tga"
Have i overlooked this in the files? Where to find a "v3"-folder?

Well made a little progress with the alignments
Managed to align the health, endurance and mana bars on the bottom of the screen. Tweaked the quickslot and compass a bit also ..
Screenshot: http://img456.imageshack.us/img456/9406/bhemsctrwi5.jpg
Screenshot: http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/2...alignedlt7.jpg
Let me know which other layouts would care to see, I'd like to have a few templates to choose from!
Also still trying to figure out how to toggle the Compass using the Ctrl key as well...
Thanks for the input guys and gal, I'll play with the transparency again tomorrow..
You can download it here;
http://rapidshare.com/files/8321907/...k_0.5.zip.html
Extract to Program Files\Aspyr\Gothic III\Data, overwrite if prompted - zip contains a backup
[Edit] Updated to 0.2, now includes bottom aligned HEM bars and optional Compass alignments. (All previous download links have been updated to) -> http://rapidshare.com/files/8321907/...k_0.5.zip.html

(I think...) All filenames have to be unique (files with the same name in different (mounted) directories are not allowed). The path is only of interest if the compiled version is not available. However, the engine might be able to find the file, even if it is in a different directory...
In general, the raw data is not included in the release, therefore you will not find the directories for the raw data.

Hmm I tried the version named B-SLT but is not working (I have the original HUD). I extracted the files in 'data' folder and renamed as 'g3.gui.res' as you said. BTW in the folder 'icons/compiled' there is no file. What is wrong?

Very much blood!!Is it normal(?), because in the game, in this particular arena ,(medium graphics) there isn't so much blood!

Sorry you're having problems, let's see...
I just tested this and it appears to be working, please make sure the file 'g3.gui.res' is under \Aspyr\Gothic III\Data\gui\resources. Also, just curious, what resolution are your running this in?
The icons/compiled folder is left over from the color change and transparency portions of the tweak. It is not currently needed (Sorry for leaving it in the Zip) You'll see these functionalities soon enough!

I believe the blood is related to either the graphic setting (High) or the Shader Model level (SM3.0)
And to answer your question, Yes, I believe I have seen some ini tweaks for this.
Please let me know if anyone else if having problems or has any suggestions!

I put that file in 'D:\Jocuri\Gothic III\Data\gui\resources' where is my installation. I have no Aspyr folder as long as I have the european version.
I run the game on 1024x768.
Thanks for telling me about icons folder. Doesn't bother me but I was wondering that time if I had a bad archive and that should have been the cause your tweak didn't work. Now I just wait for new functionalities as you said.
[Edit 1] I made it run. In my version I need to rename the file as 'g3.gui' instead of 'g3.gui.res'. I got the clue after trying the same tweak made by WernerTWC.

This would make it more easy for the Users to choose the tweak one like the most.... just a suggestion.

Just another suggestion:
You might create a gui.p01 for each version (use might use G3PakDir for this task).
This 'fan-patch' can be copied by the user to [gothic3]\Data\. No backups, no renaming - less problems
