Michael, thanks for your answers. They are much appreciated.
Will Risen 3 take place in this universe or another? The new artwork you published some time ago doesn't give much info but it looks cool.

Thank you for checking the English forums, Michael. Much appreciated.
I've been thinking about something and I have a question.
When I first started Risen, after the turmoil that followed the Gothic 3 release and the break-up from Jowood, I was very impressed by the game. The technology seemed very stable, the game resembled Gothic very much and the island was a joy to explore. It seemed like Piranha Bytes had gotten off to a really great start, with great technology and almost no bugs. Sure, the game lacked swimming and diving and climbing was significantly pared back compared to Gothic and Gothic 2, but still.. it had levitation and a huge future potential. I personally thought Risen was a little light on features, but I figured that they could be added in Risen 2.
Then came Risen 2 and imagine my surprise when it felt less feature-filled than Risen!
Instead of adding features, Piranha Bytes seemed to have scaled back features! Climbing was now more of a Quick Time Event than actual climbing. It almost felt as if Piranha Bytes had started from scratch again and hadn't had enough time to implement all the things they wanted.
I thought Risen had given Piranha Bytes a solid technological ground to work with. I thought it would be relatively easy to use the existing engine and add more features to it in the sequels. I thought Piranha Bytes had developed a content pipeline that would allow the world designers to expand on the (relatively) small island of the first Risen. None of this happened.
So, my question is: how do Piranha Bytes work when creating a new game? Do you start from scratch every time? Do you plan ahead for years to come when building new technology? Do you have plans for the next decade on how you want your technology to develop?
A little insight in the workflow of the Piranha Bytes team would be great

No. That'd be next to suicidal. While we are a still a small (~25 peeps) team that's still quite an amount. Too many fortunes to be bet on 'scratch' unless someone comes along willing to fund that bet on scratch (again x25 if you get my point).
Certainly not.
A decade amounts to an eternity (or three of them) in our industry. Consider what was one decade ago.
Then consider what was one decade before that (that's about the time I had to serve with the military - back then I got commended by my XO for playing Civilization 1. While on duty! :-) )) .

Dear Piranha Bytes,
It has come to my attention that your game will, in fact, NOT be a science fiction RPG in space. Does this mean you are currently developing Gothic 5?
Sincerely yours,
The Doctor

Quoting myself to find an excuse to post this good article, showing that I am not the only one who appreciates climbing in games:

I really wish Piranha Bytes would consider this feature again.

Tomorrow is one year since the release of Risen 2. I wonder if we'll be celebrating with some information.

Michael, are you the one who put up the picture of Scrooge McDuck on the office door, and if so, was it motivated by your acknowledgement of TANSTAAFL?

Could you give us an approximate date as to when there will be any information available on the new project? (i.e. late summer or something like that)

Uhm, guys, if by any absurd chance you are indeed working on a Gothic title, it would kinda be the time to say it since the English WoG is going bye bye. But I doubt you didn't know that. So, since publishers rarely decide to gamble with a new IP, and you didn't let at least the admins know about some future Gothic plans, I guess it is pretty much confirmed that we will have a Roleplaying Game by Piranha Bytes, part three.
