Need a New Addiction, suggestions?
Well I guess the title pretty much sums it up, I'm seriously burned out on NotR, don't ever intend to play 3 or Arcania, so any ideas where to go from here? I've heard good things about Risen, and that's pretty much what I'm looking for, something like Gothic. I've tried getting into Dragon Age: Origins and the Witcher but they just aren't what I'm craving. I need an open world with good character development. Anyone have any thoughts?

Risen? I bet you would love it.
And do you mind playing old games or do you only want the new shiny stuff?

I prefer good games. I have five computers spanning two decades of technology, so I can go back and play Zeliard if that's what I'm craving. But right now I would like to see what my new machine can do, so the shinier(sp) the better.

The best thing you could do is to wait a few weeks and get Two Worlds 2, if you like vast, beautiful worlds with great exploration value. If you live in Europe that is, if not you will have to wait till January 1, 2011.

Fallout 1&2 spring to mind.
Or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. if you don't mind missing on some RPG-elements.
Or the first Deus Ex.
Maybe The Guild (2)?
Or The Dark Eye series.
If you don't mind open source/freeware: GearHead.
There's also Mount&Blade.

Shiny games:
STALKER - Call of Pripyat is worth to check out.
It is mainly an open world survivor shooter game with some rpg elements, and some horror elements.
What I especially like is the dynamic world. Bandits ambush STALKER positions, robbing them. Animals hunt. Units cover large distances (not passive). The different monsters have often unique and interesting tactics.
You really get the feeling that the wilds (everywhere except a few human settlements) are not safe, which I like, much more so than in PB games.
Ofcourse if you haven't played Risen, that should be on top of your list.
You won't find anything like Risen, except for the two first gothics
Two Worlds sucked, and I'm skeptical that two worlds 2 will be much better.
Gothic 3 didn't live up to it's expectations, but it's still one of the best open world rpg's if you install the community patch and turn on alternative balance and AI.
Try Nehrim, a new fanmade game using Oblivion engine and resources.
I believe this is a fitting description: It's mostly like a much improved Oblivion without any level scaling and great dungeon and landscape design
Worth checking out.

Badly, yet it had something. Ah yes - fun. It didn't take itself too serious too and that's a plus for sure.

He is talking about Two Worlds 2, I think...

You should definetely check out Fable 3, I hear it's coming out these days.
Also Prototype. The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is also nice.
Medal of Honor, perhaps.

From all of those, I think the one that resembles more what our friend here is looking for, is definetly Fable 3. Since he is looking for an RPB with fantasy, and exploration, immersion, etc...
Call Of Duty is one of my favourite FPS games, I would advice it too, but you can't compare it to an RPG, nor the other way around. ^^

Yeah, I know. I just thought I should add a few non-rpg kick ass games.

I know this is kinda off topic but bringing up FPS's reminds me of another game which fed my addiction when my optical drive crapped out and I could only play games that didn't require cd's in the drive was Return to Castle Wolfenstein. I played that game so much I did a hardcore challenge on it, made it all the way to the last boss without dying once and then blew myself up on my own grenade! I could barely stomach to touch the game after that.

Oh man... Wolfenstein... so many memories... so many awesome moments...

how about GTA 4? i know it's not RPG but still huge world to explore and awesome character design also (shiny) really fun game with good story addicting too.

That's a good idea, only GTA I haven't played is 4. I stopped playing them when I was on Vice City stories and the whole thing felt like a chore and just wasn't fun.

Well, GTA IV can get serious sometimes...If you're only looking for fun, you should go with Saints Row 2
