Mouse and Keyboard problem.
I have a laptop with Windows 7 Ultimate. When I press any key on the keyboard, the cursor freezes - thus, can't turn around whilst moving in games like San Andreas. Did some googling, not much luck.
Ideas?

Both external, both internal or just one? By saying "mouse" I guess you don't mean the touchpad.
-
Sorry, I do mean touchpad. All internal as well.

Install Vista. Or install the touchpad driver and surf through the numerous options. Maybe there is one which disables the touchpad while writing.

Vista has same problem apparently. And the touchpad driver (which has been updated) doesn't have any such option. Searched for it thoroughly.

What brand is the touch pad?

I've got a Dell Latitude D620. So, I guess the default brand of a touchpad for this laptop.
I am using Alps software for the touchpad. The defo Win7 solution is too sluggish. Yet, I don't think this is software related. Not to this one at least.

Have you tried with a cheap external mouse? Or the laptop is school property and can't put anything on it?

Don't have a USB one. There is no PS/2 port.
Oh, and since school is history, it's my property now.
Damnit, it used to work under XP. I really don't wanna dual boot or downgrade to XP. I kind of like win7.

^^Buy a damn mouse, it costs only 4 euros.

XP is just better, without the eyecandy.

Try using the default Win7 driver and see if it fixes the issue.

^^ Will do.
I just realized that I haven't tried Gothic on it yet. God, if I can't fix this problem, win7 is definitely going down.
Edit: Innos be praised. Kori's advise worked better than 10 y.o. mexican motor oil.
Come to think about it, it's actually very strange. Under XP, it DID work with this app installed.
Edit2: Damnit. The sluggish sensitivity is back. Even on the fastest setting for pointer speed, it's still slow. I guess some reg/ini tweaking will have to bring alps back. Thanks for the effort anyway.

Glad I could help .

The Vista codebase broke compatibility with a lot of drivers that worked under Windows XP, sadly. Some of these problems still carried over to 7. Nothing to do but wait for Dell to fix it.

You meant to say "install XP", right?

Silly Larisa, XP has better eyecandy!

People cried because of its security issues, compatibility issues, inability to run Turbo C++ Compiler 3.0 in fullscreen, and its insane hardware requirements when compared to its predecessor. People wanted a spiced up XP but got one that changed a lot of things - they did not like Windows Aero, or the Windows Sidebar and so on and so forth. They felt it was hogging all that memory and CPU and video memory for nothing.
Since I have a moderately powerful system, the only things I hate about Vista and Seven are the dominance of the colour "Baby Blue" and, more importantly, the huge Windows/winsxs folder.

My Vista works perfectly fine What is the big deal with vista anyway? Why is it so hated?
Ask that to someone who had to go through the 13-step guide to making Gothic 2 work under Vista. Not to mention the vista sidebar problems, or the variety of other vista-related problems. Or the Win7-graphics card problems (nvidia in particular).

When Vista came out it was much like unpatched Gothic 3 buggy, incomplete and performed poorly at release.

How does that manifest itself?
I assume you use XP on your PC? Don't you think that's kinda old to still be used? We're in 2010 and we still use an operating system from 2001 when things evolve so fast in the IT domain?
If games that are released in the coming years still support XP and my hardware can handle the requirements, I'll stay with XP.
And being able to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Call of Pripyat, Dragon Age, Metro 2033, etc. on maximum possible settings without any noticable problems should mean that I'll be fine until at least 2012.
Who knows, maybe, by then, we'll have Win2012 or something (Windows: Apocalypse Edition?).
