RP: After we stated clearly that the quest helpers, the minimap and all other features are optional and can be turned on or off at any time, the feedback we received was outstanding!
Someone please, please send the interviewer some of the posts made here and on Jowood. Please.
Otherwise, nothing new, the whole pretence of "WE'RE BIG GOTHIC FANS BUT KNOW ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ABOUT GOTHIC" and fabrications.
In fact, I believe threads like this one are nothing but excuses for my tension to skyrocket.
But what do you mean, it's casual? I don't see the word anywhere in there.
No, the word casual doesn't appear anywhere but you can tell it from various sentences. For eg: Pollice said that the skill system was too clumsy and the player did get punished for making mistakes. So, they're implementing a new system which will be very simple and it won't be possible to make the hero underperforming. Also, he mentioned that the accessibility of the previous games was poor and so, they have implemented lots of accessibility features.
And finally, he said that ArcaniA will be entertaining to all kinds of players. Although I hope that no one attaches too much importance to that because it is just the kind of thing everyone says.
First: Thank the gods! They moved from the puddles stage to the accessibility stage.
with producer Reinhard Pollice
So, our dear Megalomaniac is a producer now? Or just a small confusion?
designed totally new from the scratch, to meet player’s expectations
Which player? Him and the other Gothic fans that work at JW?
made it possible to create a character that was underperforming because of wrong choices the player has done
'Cause an RPG means always getting the right choice, being the superman, never wondering "what would've happened if I didn't killed every NPC I met and now I wonder why the hell the rest attack me". §dumm
we would love to see their ideas implemented in ArcaniA as well.
Fortunately, they implemented that "disable compass and stuff", less work for modders.
Although I hope that no one attaches too much importance to that because it is just the kind of thing everyone says.
I suppose this could be applied to a lot of the PR of Arcania. As with any other game. PR talk is PR talk, which may or may not bear any relation whatsoever to the actual product.
I seem to remember some funny PR talk about Gothic 3, the innovative and intuitive combat system, which we all of course remember to be highly intuitive and innovative, etc.
hmm why does it say it will be released on august??As far as I know,It would be for Q4 2010 and some days ago they said it could be delayed to Q1 2011.Also why do you say casual on title?

So that means community manager has to be a community manager and gets paid 5000 euros per month just to post on a forum?I don't think so,he has to be doing another job as well.Cause I think anyone can do the job of a community manager.
accessibility was one of the worst parts of the previous games
After we stated clearly that the quest helpers, the minimap and all other features are optional and can be turned on or off at any time, the feedback we received was outstanding!
In addition, the effort spent on accessibility will also be a major factor in carefully introducing new players to the Gothic universe.
Our intense user testing has shown that gamers manage very well with both options.
We tried to improve all categories in terms of accessibility and adding some stunning new features.
The system that was used in the forerunners of ArcaniA felt too clumsy and made it possible to create a character that was underperforming because of wrong choices the player has done. We think it´s crucial that the skill system is motivating and easy to handle.
Yeah, ArcaniA has an amazing atmosphere and will be very entertaining to all kinds of players.
Arcania's world, while smaller, will be more detailed than in past games

That is not "casual", that is sophistication.
For the most recent Elex news, the new Piranha Bytes RPG, visit us at World of Elex!!!
And my opinion.
Normal for consoles and other games, too casual for Gothic. Even unGothic.
Arcania: Acessibility - new name.
You dare equate casualness with Sophistication?
I can play casual games but I'm not sure about Sophisticated ones.
But yes, I understand your feelings completely, except the one equating casualness with the codename of ArcaniA:
You know, there is one thing that you guys need to understand. These days, making a game costs a lot of money. And if that game is meant just for the hardcore fans community, then the money from the sales won't even cover the expenses, let alone make profit. For the Gothic series to survive, Gothic 4 needs to sell a large number of copies. That means casual gamers must also buy the game. And since casual gamers are casual gamers, gameplay mechanics need to be watered down. These days the casual gamers make up most of the customer base. So, for Gothic 4 to be bought by the casuals as well, sacrifices have to be made. Personally, its the story and atmosphere that I'm looking forward to, not the gameplay, since hardcore games like Gothic 1 and 2 are a thing of the past.

Gothic 3 was profitable "sleeper hit" for JoWood (at least 500'000 copies confirmed, but I heard about more). Also Piranha's got no money from it.
Gothic 2 sales saved JoWood from bancrupt. And it sells even now.
JoWood only needs to survive, because he using sponsor money for their only one "big name", indian outsourcers, fans to improve game, but his shares price continue to fall.
JoWood needs console and american market.
Want to help people that making themself bancrupts?

Nothing bad. But calling this Gothic 4 is wrong, IMO.
Hardcore series must remain hardcore and more traditional.
