I just wonder whether you guys know it, and if not, that I can bring some to get to know it
Sauerbraten is actually the german word for "marinated beef", but what I want to talk about here is the GAME which is named Sauerbraten, based on the cube2 open-source game engine.
Sauerbraten is freeware, the engine is open source, the content has various licenses since a lot of people contribute to development in some way. One of the main features of the engine is that it does allow simple in-game editing. Unlike in gothic where you have to use Blender or other 3D design programs, you can just go ingame and start whenever you want

- The more experienced you get, the higher the limits are. just take a look at the screenshots or the video on the official page, linked at the end of the post.
A new edition of the game was released recently, so it's a good time to start looking into it. The game features a lot of technical possibilities in terms of scripting and mapdesign, but also provides good graphics and a very fast, quake-ish gameplay. It is said that Sauerbraten has the best graphics among the free games!
As for the operating systems, sauerbraten runs on Windows, Mac OS/X and Linux. So, no excuses there
Sauerbraten supports various gamemodes, classic deathmatch, CTF, Protect and there are also instagib-variants of everything, where you are just armed with a rifle. One shot, one kill, so to speak.
Myself, I started playing sauerbraten like 2 years ago and since then I am a more or less important part of my clan and the community. And the community is what is most important about sauerbraten to me - since the core is kinda small, you get to know everyone more or less, and the majority is always pretty nice to each other. It's just fun to hang out in IRC or in mumble (VoIP tool) with people from all over the world. Seriously, you get to know people from Germany, Finland, Russia, England, but also USA and Canada or Australia - I often say that sauerbraten connects the world in a way.
So, if you like first person shooters (or even if you don't

), try out Sauerbraten and its cool features!
