Off topic: I edited my last post so it is a question
Will you involve the new heroes' friends(I suppose he will have friends)more in quests and in the story. In Gothic III they were almoast absent in contrast with Gothic I when you went after the focus stones and interacted with them in almoast every chapter(it was an awesome feeling ). Mabey something more complex this time like taking more than just one friend at a time. It would be nice for them to help you more considering that you will start as a fisherman so you need all the help you can get .

Morning,
let's see if I can answer some questions here. Others have to wait until the right guys in the house are available.
Of course are we working on the quests and many, many are finished. How many? Don't ask!
JoWooD will announce the system requirements as soon as they can.

Sure thing. Some quests may lead to many different places and require many decisions.

There's some misunderstanding here. I think it was said, that dual-wield could be possible, but I cannot confirm it right now. We are still pondering if we include it or not. Other stuff might be more important to work on.

I could. But I am not allowed to. Yesterday I had a nice discussion with the people who work on it and they explained a lot to me. But in the end they said: "Don't go and tell it to anyone!" You see - a fireball would struck me if I would talk about it right now.

I asked that to not be selfish, I want the game to be well received in my country.
2-About the combat system: I just wanna know if it is based upon real life sword fighting, that you asked the advice of professional swordmasters and stuntmen that know about medieval fencing like CD Project RED did.
I don't want that the new hero will be able to fight like Geralt The Witcher but I wouldn't mind to see some cool yet realistic fighting moves in the game
1. Jowood plans to publish the game in many languages and Spanish is one of them.
2. Oh, yes, we took a close look at videos and got advice from real sword fighters. So we try to come up with a system that looks and feels realistic. As much as possible.

There will be caves and underground areas, yes. I can't give away what is happening there. Or what happened there, that's what you ask about, right? Sorry, would give away too much of the plot.

If they are in the game they will be important for the plot and my have their own plans and agendas. I cannot answer this question without revealing a lot of secrets, but I think I can tell you that your expectations will be met.

Yes, Jorei did some work on the German boards, but she left to continue studying in New Zealand. Too bad.
I tried to answer some questions right now. The rest is in the usual pipeline and since we had a milestone to do, it could take a little longer this time. But they are all in my file and we are working on it.

I liked how you could use certain things in the environment to help increase your skills like picking up a sharpening stone to get strength or to read a book and boost your alchemy. In Gothic 2 I remember eating plants and got skills just from eating a lot of them. Could we see more of this?
The team would like to have lots of things to find for players who enjoy turning every stone, so this is quite probable. Some of those things might strengthen the player in various ways, possibly including the ones you described.
Cheers,
-EDL

Hello EDL, are you guys planning on releasing some new material (artworks, screenshots, trailer) for the easter season? I don't know, an easter egg present?
PS: Thanks for answering my previous question EDL.

Hi EDL
I guess the question might have already been asked, bu I'm too tired to search the whole thread to find it. ^^
Is the game going to be linear or non linear ? I mean, will we have a main quest with a directing storyline organised in chapters like in G1 and G2, will we have a complete choice and a complete freedom of action like in G3, or will we have something between both ?
I ask this question as it is clear that there is already two main factions on the islands fighting against each other, the forces of the king and the paladins supporting Rhobar III. Will it be possible to side with one or the other of the factions ?

Hey EDL.
Can we expect to see public urination on streets like in Gothic 2?
First time around I really rubbed my eyes in a complete disbelief on what I was seeing.
This time, please be explicit with the weenie.

Hi,
I don't want to spoil too much, so it is hard to answer. It will not be as free as Gothic 3, so you can't go everywhere in the beginning. Some foes will pretty soon be too tough to even think about it. We will not take you by the hand and guide you through it, but it will be pretty obvious what areas you should avoid. So, yes, chapters, more or less.

You are welcome.
Again, all the decisions about what to publish when are made by the marketing departement at the publisher. They pay for the stuff, they have the last word. But as far as I know, there are some plans. When is easter, btw?

LOL, finally a decent question. It depends on the size, doesn't it? Well, that's what some people say and some decline. I really don't know. Lemme ask the game designers tomorrow. Ask me again!

EDL, is there any chance that we will see gothic architecture in ArcaniA? I mean something like the churches to look something like Notre Dame(I really like that architecture ), because the game is(was) called Gothic. Or will it contradict with the lore of the Sourthen Isles?

@ EDL
Gothic has followed a theme of prisons and the colony as someone else suggested, so , please tell me they are involved.

Will there be signs of the battle that raged on the southern isles in long ages past? (The battle where the shield in the monastery was used)

EDL - 1. Are the polygons to match Risen, I think they're on the right path?
2. I don't think its definity necessary for Difficulty or Details, Gothic 1 & 2 didn't have it and it, Details shows how pretty the game looks, & I very doubt people play with high details.

Morning,
back from my mini-vacation and here are some older questions and answers. I will work on the new stuff right now.
-EDL

Will the houses and other residential in Arcania have doors, because in previous gothic i didn't see any, so it would be realistic, when we want to break into people's houses we have to lockpick the door first. And will it have windows we can climb into when we're intend to steal something?
Why should houses have doors? All of them will be closed and you can not go into them No, seriously, the answers to one or several of your questions should be yes …
Quote:
Will Arcania be a "Game for Windows"?
This is an option, but there are others as well.
Quote:
Will the game have a gritty dark and medieval-esque feel?
Yes, that is the plan. If you take a look at the published artworks I think you can get a first impression of the setting and feeling. The game should be like this.
Quote:
Will there be companions?
Hmm, what do you mean here? A faithful dog at the side of the hero? Friends? Charmed beasts? The hero will make friends and find companions during the game, but he is also very alone quite often and the weight of the whole world rests on his shoulders.
Quote:
How big are cities going to be?
I can't give you a number of the people living in there and I cannot name the amount of houses. But expect them to be big enough to spend some time there.
Quote:
Can you reveal to us the details of a minor secondary quest (like npc x sasks player to talk to someone in another city or to deliver a message, something unimportant) ? I am curious about how will the secondary quests and dialogues be like?
These quests range from rather simple (bring object from A to B) to very complex and challenging. You can imagine everything possible here and an example wouldn't do any good. But JoWooD and us plan to release some more details about the quests at some point in the near future.
Quote:
since the combat system subject was opened, will you be able to use the environment to your advantage? Like when you fight on the edge of a cliff you could kick your opponent off the cliff, or other sutff like that.
Yes, I think you could hide behind a tree or a rock when someone shoots arrows at you. So yes, you can use the environment.
Quote:
EDL, sice the action is taking place in the Southern Isles and boat travel will be involved, will you add sea monsters that might attack you and your ship while you travel between isles? Or mabey some pirates that just are on a morning raid?
Sea monsters are not very likely, most of the action will happen on firm ground.
Quote:
Also could you implement more different combat styles? Like different fighting styles for two-handed swords, two-handed axes and speares, because(in Gothic 1 and Gothic 2)even in the begining begining it is strange to hold a two-handed sword by the blade(no one would hold a sword by the blade damnit; he would get a cut ), but an axe is awesome. However it is nice, at the last stage, how you hold your two-handed sword but the axe doesn't feel natural to keep it straight up like that(i don't even want to comment the Gothic 3 combat system). I think that would lead to a more entertaining combat system and also would help the replayativity rate of the game.
There will be a lot of variety.

Will we see large numbers of people taking dinner togeder? It is a must if you plan to give the army a sence of realism.
