[G3] [Release] Magic Mod
Hi!
So, this little mod's goal is to make some of the kinda useless magic-spells usefull.
I've played the game once as a mage, but in the end it was much more effectiv to just use the fireball instead of the better spells.
This mod should change that.
Technically this mod changes just a little, the "target" of the spells changed from "caster" to "focus", that's all.
This means, the spells, i.e. the firerain was casted above the hero, now it will be casted above the focused enemy.
Changed spells are:
- Firerain
- Firewave
- Hailstorm
- Icewave
- Icebomb
- Timebubble
Personally i like the timebubble now very much, hint: try to hunt down some deers with timebubble + bow.
Installation:
Unzip the attached file somewhere, to the desktop i.e., then copy&paste the files in it to your game_folder/data/ ... if Windows asks you to overwrite some files, cancel the copy&paste, nothing should be overwritten.
Requirements:
G3 patched up to CP 1.6.

Mhhh, good question (like always),... what happend without the mod when nobody was in focus? (Should be the same behaviour),... *brb*

Without a focused enemy it doesn't work, ... but well, ... imho that is OK, ... i mean, why should one cast a spell without a target?!

I remembered one of the few times I used Fire Rain liberating Trelis. ~20 orcs running around, frame rate dropping to 1-2 fps....
I think it will be hard in such conditions to get a focus. Perhaps if you press numerous times the buttons to cast the spell, hoping an enemy will pop up in the focus at the right time.

yes, but I think this is a preety good ideea.Once I finally manage to reinstall my G3...  ....I'll try it....
Oh, If someone here knws why my G3 isn't installing properly, anounce me. When I open the agme the PB, Jowwood,Etc. comercials appear, but then, blackness. My monitor turns in stand by.:| Why is that? I tryed installing it from my friends too, but everytime, the same bull-shit...

Nice job Werner! It sounds really useful. Especially to this "timebubble" - it's pretty stupid to be "traped" in your own spell. So now it must be pretty cool, thanks

Post your system specs there, try to explain your problem as detailed as you can, post a link to the "other thread" you are talking about, ... but PLEASE do it in the g3 help. 
... And well,... if nobody can help, it's just another thread, nobody gets hurt by that.

That would have to be tier 3 beliar spell.
Still tier 2 have often good spells. To make a bit more choicec and consequences, the magic should be like.
Tier 1 - all 3 types can be learned
Tier 2 - You must choose 2 of the 3 types, meaning you can't learn tier 2 magic from one branch.
Tier 3 - as it was, only the magic from the god you chose after aquiring all the artifacts.
Summon demon should be tier 3, and they kill you very fast, but I've noticed.
If an enemy runs the demon will kill it in one strike. If the enemy is fightin it will only take minimal dmg, and killing one guy can take 5mins, meaning all it does is take of some heat.
and maybe as tier 2 you summon 3 zombies or something.
Anyways, I think the, only 2 types from tier 2 would make it alot more balanced.
Types I mean:
Adanos magic, Innos magic, Beliar magic.

Fire/Ice Wave, Icebomb - well weren't they supposed to "rescue" you when suddenly a bunch of melee fighters came close? Sure, it may be useful to target on one enemy in a group to make mass damage, but then they'll just storm on you.

And if you try to do so you got beaten down since the spell is much too slow for that purpose.

See the answer above, ... it just doesn't work like that, ... you'll come to death too much if you use that spell, the fireball is more effective, so as a super high mega mage you're still shooting fireballs instead of the higer spells.

Unfortunately dude, there are no tiers in G3.... So there isn't a tier system for spells or even a possibility to make one
(if someone knows there is please do tell!) ... The only restrictions you have is with the spells that require you to choose a god (almost at the end of the game)
The low damage summoned Demon is like that because of the patches that rendered Humanoid NPC's "invulnerable" to monster NPC's attacks, because too many people were bitching about how weak they are and how fast they(human NPC's) die when fighting monsters ---> so instead of balancing combat for humanoid NPC's they made them almost invulnerable to monster_NPC's attack.
About army of Darkness....I believe that it was removed because it was imbalanced...with the Dark_Mage perk you summon 10 undead minions (instead of 6) .... you can activate Army of Darkness yourself, afaik, if you want to.... maybe it was buggy in the release up-date, but now the spell works just fine.

Yeah, BUT afaik the spell could not be interrupted so easily and it took less time to cast...AND the damage of the spell wasn't influenced by INT(AK) ==> fireball sucked in the mid and later game... -->

PS: Joking: Now the flamewave, icebomb, freeze wave, etc spells are overpowered... when will it end??

Im assuming here that Fire Wave = Flame Wave.
Doesnt work... Still spreads from the caster
CP 1.6, fresh install, autumn pack installed (the texture mod), and yes, I surely put the file to Gothic III/data
EDIT
Okay... Now that I played around with it a little more...
It seems the spell works as you descripe, but the visual effects are on the player.
