I don't know whats wrong, notr used to work flawlessly but now every time i start it nothing happens.

I can see gothic process in task manager using 99% of my cpu and 13 MB of ram. I tried reinstalling, killing processes in task manager, stopping antivirus program (kaspersky), waiting for 20 minutes without success.

Any suggestions?

EDIT: If I switch compatibility mode to win 98, it gives me the normal crash (gothic2.exe has encountered a problem..) and the game still doesn't start

I really cant find a reason for this since in 3 years it worked absolutely perfect

well it didn't let me install it in an folder but \Gothic2\_backup-2.7, i copied it in gothic2 folder but still no result.

You'll have to install into the main-game folder, for me it's i.e.:
D:\G2-DND~1\Gothic II

But normaly the patch installer finds the correct folder automatically.

it finds it dammit but the install button isn't available. I have to choose the backup folder. Only then i can click install. Can you tell me what files does the patch change besides vdfs.cfg?

i finally found out what was wrong.

it seems that the latest build of my antivirus makes a conflict with gothic2. Not even disabling it or adding gothic2.exe to trusted applications made any difference.

So I uninstalled it and switched to an older build and now works perfectly.

Unfortunately it is one of the most common problems with g2-notr. Either antivirus or firewall mistakes g2's copy protection with questionable processes and blocks it. And i am not aware of a single case when only disabling the AV helped. Unfortunately uninstalation is required.

I go and put CD rom in and I click start game the the screen turns black and another screen pops up and the title is is where is the guru?. What do I do when this happens? It always happens to me.

P.S: I got all the requirements to play the game put thats problem always happens please help me if you can!!!!

about ur pb u could try installing latest patch and uninstalling any antivirus firewall etc. Also make sure u have directx 9c

I've had past problems with symantec av seeing game exe's and patches as trojan.

Since switching to Kaspersky av, no problems. Every time something new is executed, Kaspersky notes the risk level if any and keeps a record. It does not disable or delete processes, it merely keeps a record about the risk levels and leaves it up to you what you want to do about it.
