I also voted for Gothic because of the athmosphere. Generally, I think the overall impression has been a bit better and the game was somehow more harmonious. Another important point is: while in GI I didn't recognize any bugs, I've sometimes had severe problems with them in part II.

imho g1 is better cause the better dark atmosphere and the more detailed abilities. For example Diego explains you how u shall use ur sword, in g2 u just increase ur percents.
Or during making a sword u had to make it step by step. And to steal sth u had to sneak.

i also voted for G I cause of the better athmosphere and the above me qoutet points, it was quiet interesenting to learn more about the quests and the story step by step, not like in G II where you know what to do and how to solve the game even after the first minutes. the first part is imo much mystically.
one good point about the second one was the addon, meeting old friends, all the new countries and gilds, that was something special for me and i prefered the old gothic feeling in it.

For the moment, Gothic I leads 6:0 (!), including my vote. Seems to speak for itself...

As mentioned above, the dark and mystical atmosphere, the detailed abilities and the overall impression made it my favorite, not to forget the imho superior storyline.

P.S. @Kaliki: No bugs in Gothic I? Well, I remember quite a few, but they doesn't bother me anymore, as I get used to them. :D

I'm the first one voting for Gothic II :D

I prefer Gothic II as is has more interesting ambient quests and a bigger variety of quests in general with more - and more interesting ways to solve them.
Furthermore there are many small things that were improved, the Finish move is faster, badits are killed imediately, you are punished if you commit a crime and so on...
And the most important reason for Gothic II being the more interessting game is that your char develops individually, depending on the guild you have chosen.
I played the game 4-5 times and I'm not bored yet.
In Gothic I it is allways the same. Your joining the Water Mages anyway and in the end your a well equiped fighter with several magic abilities.

It's allways the same.

Anyway: I like both games and since my computer is not quite so good I sometimes prefer Gothic I for it's fluent display and the shorter loading time.

Edit: What Isn't mentioned as an option in the poll is Gothic II DNDR/TNOTR
I would have voted if their was the possibility.
I just love the design of the Add-On World and the skilling system (I don't know how to call it) is IMO better.

I've voted for G2 too, because with the AddOn it is very cool. The Soundtrack and the atmosphere in the addonworld are great and egalize the weak points of G2.

If you love Gothic 1 you will surely like Gothic 2, too.

well to be honest i didn't think of that so im sorry if i left it out. i haven't played it, and as you know the english version isn't out yet and im not thinking of using the translation mod.
on second thought, i always skip dialogues since i read faster than they speak, so it wouldn't make much difference. ;)

I didn't vote, since I just can't decide for myself which game is "better". Gothic 1 had this dark, depressing atmosphere, which I loved...Gothic 2 is "brighter", but I liked that, too.
The story of G1 is a bit better, but on the other hand, G2 had a lot of improvements in gameplay and graphics (not to mentoin the size of the gameworld). The addon was really nice, too.

It kinda balances out in the end, at least for me. So I don't really want to make this decision.

Just remember
Parlan and the church, kherolot and his money, Fellan, Liesel, Dar and Cipher, Thekla, Bromor...
nearly every NPC has his own stile and jokes.

I voted for Gothic I cause it has the better atmosphere.
I like the dark world and the detailed story. The story in Gothic II is very simple: Just kill the Dragons!

Your told in the beginning what is your final aim, that's right.
I don't like that, too. But I don't think that this small problem ruins the athmosphere that much.

You still have to do many other things and don't really know much about the dragons and the army of darkness.

I don't wanted to say Gothic II is a bad game.
It's just an example why it's not that good Gothic I is.
I like Gothic II very much, too and i played it such as often as i played the first Gothic.

I voted for Part 1 ´cause it´s simple more unique than Part 2. Part 2 isn´t bad, but Part 1 has a superior Story and is simple more atmospheric which counts more than the improved things that Part 2 features. Part 1 ends always the same, that´s right. But it felt more like a RPG. This because Gothic 2 has the much easier gameplay. That´s not bad, but in terms of a RPG I prefer it little bit harder. In TNOTR they made it HARDER. I´m sorry for you english guys who still can´t play the addon.

One thing I missed in Gothic 2: A detailed Diary. It is written so lovelass and it would have taken less than a day to wrote some stuff for it like in Gothic 1.

I haven't played classic for a long time now but I allways had the impression that it is much harder than Gothic 1.

In Gothic 1 I easily killed each and every monster in chapter one only with my prospectors' trousers and my sword.
In Gothic 2 it is much harder. I could kill neither the orks nor the troll right away (it took me a lot of loading)

Well from the story point of view
gothic I was far superior compared to it's sequel
.Also the atmosphere was incredibly orginal.the
prison aspect was allways present and made
us forget all the usual rpg-cliches.

Gothic 2 on the other hand lost the "gothic-charm" a bit,
mainly because of the unorginal and dull story.
How often heros go and slay dragons in fantasy,
yes quite frequently.I don't even go saying how overhyped
the dragons felt, when you finally met them.

In Gothic 2 the setting was different, but quite good nevertheless.
The smouldering civil-war threath was a nice idea and really made me to think, that things could explode any minute.However as the game progressed it became quite obvious, that lee wasn't going to do a shit or neither was lord hagen.

Same goes to the orc-siege on the old valley.I sensed a bit of anticlimax after all the hard work i did for killing those orc leaders.
Even then lord hagen just kept sitting on his butt, while all his men were
waiting to get slaughtered there,

It would have been amaizing to kick some orcass with other paladins.
Hell it could have became the best momement in the game, but no.
I know, that i can let the orcs in, but there should have been an other
solution to the siege problem.

Infact I'd like to see even more scripted scenes
in g3.For instance a big epic battle beetveen orcs and paladins.
Lets imagine a bit.If you didn't kill the warlords, hagen asked, you would soon see the orcs attacking to the city..

If compared to the story in first gothic,it wasn't all bad.
I just felt like it was missing those BIG surprises and plot twists we experienced in gothic1 (the great invacation, the orc cemetary,
things what happened in the mine, about the relations beetween
the camps and how those realations changed during the game
and entering inside the mysterious orc temple).

Gothic2 just lacked those moments.When i launched gothic 1 first time
I didn't have slightest clue about what to expect.I couldn't
imagine anything about the plot or how it developes during the game.
Instead in gothic 2 right after the opening demo xardas tells us
why we are here and what we must do.As i said there really
were not many surprises(despite the seekers,
a trip to the old walley and leaving with the ship).

If we talk about gameplay aspects gothic II
is an obvious winner.

Anyhow if piranha bytes are able to merge the good story
elements from gothic to the good gameplay elements
from gothic II and even add something new, they can't fail.

EDIT: somehow the line division and division into paragraphs seems
to fail, even when it looks good beforehand :(

Exactly. When I first played G2, I thought for sure that Chapter 5 would have Lord Hagen leaving Khorinis and you joining him to mount a rescue of the Paladins in the VOM (if you chose). Boy was I disappointed to find the whole time he just sat there "preparing".

What I figured is that perhaps they planned something like this, but just ran out of time. Man I wish PB could get like ID or Valve one day. Where they have so much clout with publishers that they can write their own ticket and have a "Its done when its done" philosophy. Maybe since G1 & G2 were both big sellers in Germany Jowood is giving them breathing room to really make G3 complete & polished.

Yep same here, can't help the feeling, that pb ran out of time towards the end.Those little touches produce classics :).

I prefer Gothic II, because I like the brighter atmosphere. Propably it could even depend on the case that I bought Gothic II at first and after that I bought Gothic I, so that Gothic II had a more positive effect to me. Gothic I looks a bit unfinished in serveral aspects, for example the many bugs or the many, just differend called swords that aren't really different from each other. I don't know how this facts are handeled in the English version mabye the PBs corrected them, but in the German version they exist.

Here I am again! Which one is better? I can't decide, but I can comment on this for a while. Let's see:
Gothic I: was better because it had a better story, a unusual one I might say. Secondly, the whole thing seemed to fit together quite nice - I mean the world limitations and the division of the camps. Then again, I can't say that the world limitations in Gothic 2 are unreal - this is actually a plus for both of them. Gothic had a better atmosphere - everybody sais it. Personally I loved the part when I learned a new skill that actually the "teacher" told me what to do. Then there is the trade, or better - barter thing. You had to sell your stuff for something. The merchants had a limited number of stuff - and that was good - well...except those limited arrows :P. The bad thing about Gothic (I think the only bad thing) was it's linearity. After the first chapter, it preety much became the same thing. And here Gothic 2 excels. Because it keeps you intersted and engaged in your guild. You actually feel that you belong there. Another thing I love about Gothic 2 is that it's bigger. It's really sad when you finish a game like Gothic - I mean, it's really sad when you finish Gothic, because for me, there isn't another game that is as good. And it's also more diverse - more guilds, more quests, more weapons. Yup...that's about it. The addon I still haven't played for Gothic 2 - I am one of those mad hopers that waits and waits...and waits....(I could go on like this till 6 AM)

p.s. I just remembered: in Gothic there is practically no use for alchemy - this is a lot better in Gothic 2. The same comes to blocking with your weapon, which I didn't succed in doing in Gothic. The bad part is that forging, for instance, isn't as strict in Gothic 2 as in the first.

I voted for gothic before I saw the results and I'm surprised to see that for gothic 2 are only 5 votes... I think this is the result of that impresion that leaves GOTHIC 1's atmosphere on every person that played it long before gothic 2....Those place, those peoples that atmosphere wore very stuning indeed... I loved it very much... gothic 2 is good, he brings a great level of graphics, but in a way he looks kind of "modern" besides the gothic 1 times...I enjoyied both parts even the second one :D

p.s. i'd like dough , to ask pb what name would they give the hero ?
(I think it's better to not give a name... :D )

Gothic 1: fantastic story and atmosphere. Grafic wasn't perfect, but the great story, the great freedom in the game and last but not least the skillsystem makes Gothic a perfect game, imo.
Gothic 2: fantastic grafic and a larger world with more quests. But the atmosphere and the story are in my eyes not so perfect as in Part one.

I do agree with you hagalaz, I won't say that a game is good just because it is newer or has the graphics more advanced, rather say that a game is good because has an good atmo, and story... I'm not saying that g2 sucks...NEVER...ITS THE BEST GAME EVER, but it's predecessor is more original... (IMO in every trilogy, the first part is better because it brings something new and original...take matrix for example....:D)

i think both games are extraordinary, both in gameplay and story

g1 is said to have stupid controls, but i got used to them in minutes.

the story has more twists and turns than in g2, but the end is always the same. Ore-Armor and Uriziel, ban Sleeper, win

i like the three different ends of g2 more, even if the atmosphere isn't the same

i played g2 before g1, and when i started g1, i got the feeling that g2 was somehow a lightversion of part 1. g1 has more plants, more weapons and more armors than g2. g2 is filled with more or less useless characters (all the citizens of Khorinis, the Mercs, etc) while g1 has more npcs with names and specialities.

agree here with you, but it isn't wrong that there are alot of useless characters, remember that in the colony they wore fighting, dying,(and the mines, wore full of diggers and scrapers), so it's kinda the same, but in G2 they had to put more people coz it's the big city of Khorinis... :D If the characters, had more names, and you could talk with them something special, and when something special happens, they should respawn their lignes...(as in Regis = = => when you retrieve the bow for Bosper)...

I would say that Gothic II seems like an expansion to Gothic I.
But I am one of the persons who say that Gothic II is the better one.
I like the brighter atmosphere moore than the dark in gothic I, allthough the dark atmosphere better fits to the title.
The first time I got out of Xardas' tower and went outside in the beautiful landscape I thought that I could take a deep breath of fresh air, when I saw the wonderful nature.
It also could be the case that I preferr Gothic II, that I bought it first and after I was ready with Gothic II, I started to play Gothic I.

When a frend gave me 2 CD`s whith name on them Gothic, he said: "Here, play it! You`ll love it!" I instaled the game and started it.... :eek: ....and then §rofl -->> when Hero sais his wish: "Spear this.... :D " I just fell in love with Gothic!
So I vouted for Gothic I.

But of course I liked very much Gothic II, but my heart belongs to Gothic I (G2 is my second love! :cool: )

G1 graphics are very very good, they did a good job, and that "feeling" was given also because the graphics, because that dark sky, those rough times, stone walls, and if I think more about it, the new things brought by Notr, doesn't match the gothic world...I mean the pirates, the old civilisation, the canyon, and so on, I'm not saying that they arent good, but when I played for the first time Gothic1, I was astonished, and I formed an image of the Gothic world in my mind, and I couldn't see these new things..... probably i'm tired now, but this is what i think, and G2 is too "light", to modern, and so on.....

After I banished the Sleeper, i couldn't wait to get out from the colony, but the game ended.... §cry but G2, isn't the world I expected....

whenn i finished g1 i was so thrilled that i could not stop plyed it again nad again. my mind just didn't wanted to exept the fact that the first part is over. Then g2 came.....and nothing special(without the addon) :)

I didn't like that thing with G1 guilds. Only differences between guilds were mostly in 1st chapter. Remaining story was mostly the same.

I voted for Gothic 1.
Gothic 2 is a great game, too, but I think the atmosphere and the whole setting's better in Gothic 1. I think, I needed ca. 100 hours in order to complete gothic; sometimes it was quite hard to play, but each minute in the game was a new experience. And you could be killed so easily...at least at the beginning.:D
Gothic 2 was not bad and I like its add-on and this Gothic 1-feeling in it. It was quite harder than part 1, duh...but its story didn't seem to me not quarter as good as Gothic 1's story.

I'm going with Gothic II, but only including Die Nacht Des Raben (which must be the best expansion set I have ever played).

The only things I miss from Gothic I is the opportunity to become a Water magician - everything else Gothic II has covered.

As a standalone game Gothic I would be best, but assuming you have played Gothic I and have the expansion for Gothic II, Gothic II is supreme. I *loved* my first visit to the bandit camp in Jharkendar, meeting up with the rest of the old guys from the colony again.

I like G2 waaaay much than G1, because I hated the movements/fights and the inventory in G1, however it had better atmosphere.

i also chose g1... you know why... better story, better NPCs imo, better inventory as godcrusher said... it's true that g2 has advantages too: better grafics, better controls(i mean that in g1 you have to press ctrl+up arrow to pick sth for ex but in g2 you can press just ctrl or click...)... anyway g1 is better.. for me is not g1 vs g2... it will be g1 vs g3 ;)

I like G2 also much more than G1. The gamecontrol in G1 is very terrible. And there are not so many Quests like G2. But the atmo is better in G1.

Yes, but if you know where the armor class is in the 2nd game in the inventory, or where the potions are roughly, you can manage that.
But the trade and the controls were dump. In the first 15 minutes, I just didn't know how to open a chest, or how to jump. And there are a lot of jump/ladder bugs too.

well for me wasnt such dificult.. i manage it in 2 days :D .. but i thought a lot of that.. you know, in g1, at the begining there is a chest near a "cave" and i was very confused how to open it.. i tried with ctrl but he was just stanidng there on his knees §hehe ... and i dont read those "readmes" :p :D

really? i never knew that. I installed it and played it without cd,(but then again my knowledge of computers and all that stuff is really poor) and i even didnt bother to look at the little book next to the game so silly me ;)

About the manuals:
My first i ever used was for Amiga, the game "Elite", i thought it would help me to do my first landing at a space-station (kinda tricky),... i was wrong!... a little bit more practice was all which was needed.
About the controls, aren´t they explained during the installation of g1?!?! :D

To topic:
I like both, but the atmo is better in g1,... so i chosed g1.

Well for me is G1, because I got attached to it , and I have a really strong connection with it.

I think that the controls made by PB are very good. Once you get used to them they are very simple and (unique)...

I don't think that someone has to dislike Gothic 1 (or the gothic games) just because of the controls. It is not fair...

Two years ago I'v played Gothic II it have been my first RPG and so far the best.Because I liked G2 I played G1 after few hours it didnt mater weak grafics its all about atmosphere and story.G2 was MY first love and it will stay like that I hope until G3 ;)
Well, the first love will never be topped, but you find other loves,... i wanna say, when G2 is your "first beloved" game, even g3 don´t will change this imho. :)

I voted for Gothic II, even though the original has a great atmosphere it seems somehow unfinished. For one, G2 rewards you more for searching the countryside, in G1 there was so many 'dead' areas where it looked like the designers planned to put something, but just didn't get to it.

Do you mean the Sleeper? It´s an arch-demon, but not a dragon, we once thought about him, one idea: he´s mutant minecrawler,.... and if you count the undead dragon from g2 then you get 6 dragons ;).

Of course you can. But keep in mind it is a lot like watching the sequel to a popular film before knowing the one film that actually triggered the whole hype. ;)

I would always recommend playing Gothic 1 first. The graphics engine is essentially the same, G2 has marginally better graphics. Furthermore, the story in G1 is more immersive and genuine. Above all, you can get G1 for a bargain price. It's virtually a give-away in most stores nowadays. :D

Yes becuase you have us who can explain you the things you aint understanding :D Now serious........I recomand you to play Gothic 1 first because of the story, and you don't have any motiv to play just gothic 2 (or first).Gothic 1 at story and athmosphere is more likely then gothic 2......

I voted Gothic2 because I first played G2 then G1. Maybe if I were played in right order I will be like the most of you....... melancholic, but I think that G2 is better than G1. And I am not talking about graphic.... Someone sayed about some bugs in G2, but in G1 are a lot of it. The one who annoyed me most of the time is when you strike and the sword touches the adversary but did not harm him. Is something like in Morrowind when you miss but you see the sword touching the opponent. And this is only one of the bug. Don't understand me wrong, I like a lot G1, but if you compare the two games, G2 is better made. If you play G2 for the first time, like I did, the atmosfere gets you and you know nothing about VoM, Lee, Diego, who side you will join and why....... It is like you really lost all your skills and memory. And this is another thing I apreciated in G2, it continue the story but if you didn't played G1 first, you understand from your friends the main story in G1. I remembered that I was imagine the VoM in first chapter in G2, and I dind't dare to go closer at the gate because of the fritening stories I heard from NPC. So @maledicere, I don't know what to recomad to you......... But I Know you will enjoy the games, in whatever order you will play them.

You are right, there were things left out of the game, reasons: (what a surprise^^) time and money.

The ladder bug, yes, and just a lot of graphic glitches also and things like in the final encounter with the Sleeper and Cor Kalom, I died meeting them the first time and reloaded and the other templars just prayed and didn't attack me! I also had a number of lockups or crashes to desktop with Gothic trying to access invalid memory addresses or obj expected but not found errors, etc. But even with those it was a very enjoyable experience.:)

What camp did you played?

I was a Sect Camper, love the atmosphere down in the swamp. :cool:

Yes thats true the swamp camp is the best camp from gothic 1 and its my favorite too and they dont do nothing all the day except for harvesting weed and pray to the sleeper :)
And i think that are 3 swampweed-sticks :p

Ye the whole camp is like a big commune, but they aren't cureing their swampweed adiction:D but they see that like that if they are high, they can comune with the sleeper:D

I agree with you, but I`m afraid it isn`t possible. Gothic 3 would be even further delayed if they designed the colony in the new engine.

No it isnt posible because Pb said that you cannot return to Khorinis so then you cant go back to the VoM ;)

What I really like in G1 is that the hero arrives equal, with nothing special - unlike in G2, when you're sooo important.
And the music is pretty good, especially from the Old Camp, even from the Sect. G2 wasn't all that successfull regarding music, the only ones I like is the music on the plains, meadows etc. and from the dragons.
And as you said yourese;f, the story. Much better than some lame dragons - moreover, the main plot is revealed at the very beginning, whereas in G1 you must work hard.

One of the best things in G1 is the fact that you had no idea who your enemy was until late in the game. i mean, you hear a lot about the sleeper, but I would never have thought that the sleeper would be the nr 1 enemy.

One of things that makes G1 better then G2 for me is that U don`t know the past of the here, U`re a usual guy, and U can`t even imagine what are U going to do there! And the story of curse is very original - as was said before - U didn`t knew whom U are fighting till half of the game! :)

Gothic is not perfect. G2 story is not very good, atmospheresetting in g1 is better -prison colony that have autonomy because of the barrier, diferent camps whit diferent priorities and atmosphere (2want to leave colony but one by trusting god and serving for him). Personally I think that g=g2 but they have diferent str points. G2 have more wariance in side-quest and diference(consequence) of choosing guild are bigger.

IMHO Gothic1 is not very good it has many bugs and it's graphics can't impress.
IMO the best Gothic till now is G2 NotR it is the toughest of all and it has many things that the other Gothics didn't, and with the word "things" I don't mean only items ;)

I like G1 best too.It's rough and dark,not like bright wannabe G2.And G1's story was best too.And amazingly,I almost never encountered bugs in G1.But in G2..

about G2 story..it's said that PB did a weak job 'cause they spoiled the main plot from the very beggining..I like G1 more than G2,but still G2 NotR impressed me vvv much..the story of the add-on is so well implemented in the story of G2 classic that makes you think that G2 classic's story is incomplete whitout the add-on's

G1 is different. It`s more linear, which gives you a focus on the story. G2 is much more open, and with the atmosphere of the addon, some weaknesses are solved.
Oh, and the newworld is meant to have a neutral atmosphere. You can`t say it`s bright, as far as you get killed from the beginning, and you spawn in a necromancer`s palace.
And I don`t think G1`s story is better. It`s just got more twists, and this time too you can`t say your goal isn`t set from the beginning. Your goal is to destroy the barrier, no matter how.

I, myself, consider G2 + addon better.

I perfer G1 because this was my intrudution to Gothic world and the atmosphere was realy realy great!!! :D

And by the way - there is coincidence - thouse who first played G1 mostly like G1 better (not all) and thouse who played G2 first likes G2 better (no all, too)...:rolleyes:

But IMO they are equal in most matters and I`m realy happy that G2 wasn`t disapointment for me! :D

If everyone played Gothic when it first got RELEASED everyone would share the same view. The Gothic at the time it got RELEASED was BEST rpg EVER. And that was a few years before Morrowind. Which also wasnt a better game than G1. Gothic 1 at THAT time was perfect. Gothic 2 at the time it was released wasnt perfect at all. It only had better graphics. NOTR on the otherhand comes close.

Its like playing FF7 now and saying it has bad graphics :P

We think that G1 is so special 'cause is a game like no other...I mean at the beggining we didn't even know the controls..we were thrown there and we started to follow that fella in red armor(eventually we fell of those mountains and died)...the speciality of teh atmosphere of G1 is that you are thrown in a palce you don't now NOTHING about(I remember I entered a digger's hut and he tried to get me out..I didn't expected that!!)

i really need the Notr .. i don't have it .. first playd G2 ..this might be true.. i like G2 more because is more open the story gives at the start that is true but still G2 is best at least i think that way. some like G1 because in G1 there is something that makes the game special i don't know mybe is the story or the characters in the game,the way they talk ..i thing the 2 games are really like the same ..impresiv ..one of the best rpg

NOTR is great, too! - Story is well overthinked and fits into G2 story. :D
And as exodian said - in the time when Gothic was released it was perfect (for me it`s still perfect :cool: ). Gothic II was second part - in the begining U had an overview for Gothic. It`s a little bit different then U got thrown into unknown world - prison.
I was walking arond like - "ooooo... yeah this thing is cooll...... and this .... ohhhh.... I can do that, too..... finaly I picked up something!!!! :eek: :D " Hope U got my point! ;)

I was introdused to this game two years ago. As I live in a place where gothic games never made it or when it did then only some copys of it. I managed to get my hand on them in U.K whne i wisited the country. I must say that I love G1 more as it had totaly new way of RPG and it had magic. Not magic as a many spels but magic as something that brings me back to the game over and over again. The only problem with the game is that ita has many bugs. G2 to has les bugs and better grafic but it also has less magic. Have finished this game only 2 times. One time with Paladin and one time with Mage. G2 map is bigger and you have more ways then G1 but its wierd to se some charagter in G2 that you killed in G1.
I hope that G3 will be more like G1

I liked g2 because it was the first gothic i playd. I really liked the landscapes, which are better than in g1, and the story isn't better than in g1, but still, my vote goes to g2

For me personaly the both of them are very good.
In G1 the atmosphere was realy darc and and the way you are getting deep within the story step by step was really impresive. And i can say that the most of the important things for the storymode are happening in G1.
In G2 i like the simplicity of actions( the way you using wepons and inventory). After all is more important how you will enter the storymode and G2 pick my interes for a more darc days and nights then you even can imagine. I have playd first G2 byt after G1 i 've retyrnd again in the battlefields of Korrinis for somethings which i pospoond first time

i must say that g1 was superior for me, since it has an authentic dark age atmosphere of which only a portion we can see in g2. also i liked more the inventory in g1. but in g1 all the way i was a weakling then suddenly i could beat everybody with no problem. in gothic2 the progress is more steady, at least i had that expirience.

so please state your opinion, which game made a better impression on you or with which one have you had a better experience.

ps. why cant we make pools ;o
