I bought Gothic III a couple of days ago but I can't even start it ! Every time I want to start gothic this "where is the guru" window pops up. I installed patches 1,6 1,08 and 1,12 so far, do i need to download any more patches ?? I have 2036MB RAM and 1,86Ghz Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU. I don't know how to find the specs of my videocard/graphical card (don't know how you call it) though. Please tell me the problem can be fixed.
Oh, one thing I forgot, after installing patch 1,08 another error popped up saying there was a problem wit a DLL file.

Many problems and some misunderstandings I guess...;)

Patch 1.6 is higher than 1.08 and 1.12 so you have to install that one at least (1.6 = 1.60). Therefore reinstall the whole game and then install only community patch 1.6 full: download (http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=132)
It includes all the other patches you need.

Concerning your dll-file problem: Could you remember to the whole error message? That would be important.
If you use windows vista, did you installed DirectX 9.0c additional? Otherwise do that.

Concerning your video card's name you should take a look to your DxDiag. Open a run window by windows key + "R" and type "dxdiag".

Greetings,You just have to install Gothic 3 and then the Gothic 3 Community Patch v1.6 (Full version) (http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=132).No need for 1.12 or 1.08.

edit: Lobedan said it better.

thanks, i'll try that. The full DLL error message goes like this : Error while starting game executable - couldn't load DLL file ? overrideMute@ChannelGroup@FMOD@QAG?AW4FMOD_RESULT@@_N@Z

Ok, that's about the wrong order you installed the patches. It should be enough when you reinstall the game and install community patch 1.6 full.

still have the guru problem...
I don't know how to see information regarding my graphical card on dxdiag, could it be this : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 6300 @ 1,86Ghz (2 CPUs)

god, this is frustrating, thank for the help so far...

That's the name of your cpu (processor). Look for a tab named "display" or "video" or something similar.

Intel(R) 946GZ Express Chipset Family then ? Doesn't sound too fancy ...

or maybe GMA 3000 --> sounds a bit better

I think that's your motherboard.
You can try GPU-Z (http://www.filehippo.com/download_gpuz/) its very easy to use and you'll see your model immediately.

edit:
GMA 3000
Yeah that's it.I wouldn't count on Intel's GPUs but I don't think that could cause a Guru.

How Kostaz said: That's it.

But: Gothic 3 only supports video cards from Ati and nvidia. All other manufacturers cause errors, also gurus, because they aren't supported. No way to fix it without another video card.

damn, no gothic for me then, it's not like it's really a part of the series anyways, thanks for the help.

I did a search through some forums to see if there is something which can help you and the only thing that I was able to found is that the guru problem ofently came from graphic drivers problem try reinstalling them if this doesn't work I suggest you to reinstall dx

Maybe you had leftovers from the former installs, ... try: uninstall the game, delete every leftover g3 - folder and it's content, install g3, no patch -> see if it works, .... install then the full patch, and again, -> see if it works.

I'm quite sure PollyWolly has a notebook,so no upgrades for him.

No, no notebook, but it's not my computer so I can't really buy a new video card. Anyways, I'm getting a new computer in about 5 months, so I'll just have to wait till then. Let's just assume that the problem lies in the fact that intel makes crappy video cards, thanks for finding the problem, but I guess there's nothing left to do save waiting for my new computer.
