World of Risen

The Webseite TeamXbox.com published an exclusive character bio on Captain Gregorius Steelbeard with some screenshots featuring the pirate.

Excerpt: Captain Gregorius Emanuel Steelbeard is an old-school pirate: a man of honour with no manners. With his crew and his ship, the ‘Eleanor’, he used to plunder the shores of the Lost Realms and Khorini Island back in the old days, which is how he made a name for himself among the pirates.

The full only 158 word short text can be found on the website linked below.

Khorini?

If "Khorini Island back in the old days" is no indication of Risen universe being the same as Gothic and Gregorious being the same as Greg from NotR then nothing is :))

I wonder if this is an official bio published exclusively through that website or it is just an article they wrote.

I had the same doubt when I read the "article" on that site. As far as I am concerned, there are three options:

if the presumption on Khorini=Khorinis, Captain SteelBeard=Greg from G2.. is right, then i wonder why such an important information wasn't presented officially by Deep Silver :dnuhr:
if "Khorini Island" is not "Khorinis Island", then it would be a really bad choice of words from Piranha Bytes
TeamXbox web site doesn't provide right informations

I hope that someone of Deep Silver, like Gadwyn, can remove these doubts.

Yeah. Maybe they aren't still allowed to state to the publich that Risen is the sequel to Gothic but they are "leaking" such unofficial hints.

Dream on.

Methinks it's just some article by the site and not exclusive info.
And the author mixed up Steelbeard with Greg of G2:NotR and thought Khorinis referred to numerous islands individually called Khorini.

I think that if the info on that site wasn't official, it wouldn't be posted on the world of risen website.

What makes you think that WoR is official in any way?

a pirate with an eyepatch called greg in notr and another pirate with an eyepatch called gregourious in risen 2 and who looks just like greg in notr is too much to be just a coincidence.

False. Greg in NotR had brown hair and beard as well as a narrower face. So no, Steelbeard (black hair going grey) doesn't look like Greg.

Firstly, light brown hair doesn't go dark grey with age. Secondly, why would Mr. Rüve positively confirm that Risen is not a part of Gothic?

What copyright issues? PB own the copyright to Gothic.

Why are you even trying to link Risen with Gothic? Why do you want them to be the same world? What's the big deal if they're two different stories?

Especially since PB want to do something different from what they've done so far. Something different is better off as a new story rather than a continuation of an old. If PB want their next game to be set in a fictional modern world, it would be better if it is an entirely new story and not a continuation of Risen or Gothic.

§ice Now we want free climbing again!!! and swimming and diving as in the good old Gothic... and Xardas! :gratz

I see it as a new story in a big universe....
And I would really like to dock my ship again in Khorinis harbor, or on beaches in Jharkendar.... To walk to the good old penal colony and spend the night in a demonic tower again..... §ice

Pay attention on the scar;)

Nice find! What do you think, should we have a petition thread for PB to change Greg's hair to brown?

^...no need, IMO.
Then he was much younger, spends time on the beach and sun, and therefore much lighter hair..:D

Spending time in the sun and growing older don't make someone's hair grow darker.

Also, the scars are different. The Greg in NotR has two different scars whereas those of Steelbeard look continuous. :p

.. I believe it is so for you and your hair. But my hair is much brighter when I spent the summer in the sun and beaches... In the winter darkens again.

I would not place too much weight on that "Khoniri" word. In fact, it would not surprise me if that name never appeared in Risen 2 itself. It may just be a creation by Deep Silver for this very bio because they wanted to be funny. As in: Hehe. Khorini. *poke*, *poke*. Greg. Khorini. Get it?

yet spending time in sun does make your hair lighter.

Yes, and? As I said, spending time in the sun doesn't make your hair darker. It may or mayn't become lighter.

Oh, and IF the hypothetical assumption that Risen is a continuation of Gothic is true, then it must be set AFTER Gothic II, because the gods weren't banned in Gothic II but they were before Risen. So, Greg's hair should be lighter in Risen 2 (set about a decade after Risen) than it was in Gothic II IF Risen is a continuation of Gothic.

You got me wrong. In g2, Greg was younger and had a crew, he used to spend months in the sun, on the ship deck or on beaches. As he got older he chose to spend his days in pubs and inns, thus his hair coming to a more natural color, a darker one.

This is the first I've ever heard of such a thing happening, but surely if he was once blond, he wouldn't have developed perfectly black (and grey) hair instead of dark brown or some similar colour!
