Bug/butterfly glitching - game unplayable

I just started running 1.2.0.4 on Steam with Windows 7 64-bit. I'm on an HP laptop with both integrated and dedicated graphics cards. Either one I run the game on displays the butterflies in the beginning as flashing on and off the screen, and being so big they take up 90% of the screen so I have no idea what's going on. It works fine on my Desktop computer with Windows XP 32 bit, but I bought this game intending to play it on my laptop. Ideas?

you can try to deactivate the quality renderer. It seems that the HP graphic card has a problem with some particle effects.

Sadly, no dice. Both on integrated and dedicated graphics cards, and butterfly flying around in the very beginning still glitches terribly and takes up the whole screen. With and without quality rendered, same thing.
